There are so many different factors that entrepreneurs have that make them successful in this very complicated field. People have often tried and tried to study the aspects and abilities of entrepreneurs and sometimes it is simply just something people have or don't have. It requires many instincts, and also specific skill and research in order to be successful in their specific field. There are many good habits that entrepreneurs get into to make them successful, as well as their behavior. Entrepreneurs often act in a very respectable manor when carrying themselves wherever they are. They always seem to be in "business" mode, which is some characteristics that are special to entrepreneurs. They often sacrifice sleep, free time, and many other things in order to be successful with their venture.
Being an entrepreneur requires a huge process, it is something that takes many years in some cases, so it can require patience on their part, and continued work ethic. "Sarasvathy (2006 p.3) talks about the process it takes to be a successful entrepreneur and how it does not always happen over night, and it can sometimes take many years of sacrifice, and hard work to start a new venture. Personally, I found what Sarasvathy is saying here to be a very strong statement about what it truly means to be an entrepreneur because most people do not understand the behind the scenes story of how these successful ventures came to be and why they are so successful to this day. Sarasvathy states three aspects about entrepreneurs, the first one is "...Who they are - their traits. tasks and abilities..."(Sarasvathy 2006 p.3). The first thing entrepreneurs should consider is who they really are as a person, things they are good at, but also things they are poor at. The first step is for them to look at themselves, and be honest, or else they will not do it to their best ability. They then must look at their employees they hire and find the strengths and weaknesses for them as a unit, so the venture can run at the most efficient rate as possible. Entrepreneurs should also study their competition very well and see what they do poorly, but also what they do good as well. It is so important as an entrepreneur to study their competition to figure out where they as a team have an advantage, but also what they need to work on to be more successful. Sarasvathy also talks about "...Whom they know - their social and professional networks"(Sarasvathy 2006 p.3). It is so important in any sort of ventrue for a successful entrepreneur to have good relationships and bonds with lots of really important people. For any venture, especially a new venture starting out building a reputation is very key in staying in business for a long time, and being the most successful as possible. "Academic courses in entrepreneurship are now found at undergraduate and graduate levels in many business schools"(Hebert p.1). Entrepreneurship is becoming a more and more popular choice for young and older americans to get into a specific field. One of the unique things about entrepreneurship is that many different people of many different ages are able to study these courses and learn what it means to be a successful entrepreneur. Many people think you have to be young and energetic in order to succeed in being an entrepreneur, but that is simply not true, and is one thing that makes this career path so special to get in to. There are many university campuses that target entrepreneurship as a very important study because it is very important to continue to grow young and old entrepreneurs. Small businesses are so important to this country, and entrepreneurship is a big part of the success of these businesses. Small businesses make up this country and are an important part of the economy. It is also very special to learn the values of taking moderate-sized risks and learning how to manage them the right way. "These achievements, we think, must be based on some special inner quality. It is difficult not to think this way"(Gartner p.12). Sometimes it can simply be considered instincts that are special to some people and they just have it. When people study entrepreneurship, it completely changes the way they think, and everywhere they go they continue to think this way. Entrepreneurship changes so many things about how someone sees the world, and can be a very solid career path to get in to. Entrepreneur s must be patient and learn to take moderate risks, it is important not to take too big of risks and get into financial trouble that will hurt moving forward. Entrepreneurs are risk takers, which is what makes them so special, as well as making them successful in the long run.
