When my son was red belt few years ago, he wanted to quit becasue it was getting hard to go to the next belt and took him a lot of time. We pushed him hard to keep going until he became black belt. He is going for second degree now, and he is also a part time instructor at the martial art studio. He's been there for 9 years already.

That is great. Mine were totally uninterested and we were frankly a tad fed up with the school and the Shihan (Master) attitude.
