I don't think Bitcoin Latina is ditching Bitshares. They had already forked the Etherium blockchain and were planning on integrating the Bitshares wallet and exchange for commerce applications. If anything this is a move towards Bitshares 3.0 and Bitcoin Latina will be a solid partner in bringing its customers to bitshares for financial applications.

That's also how I understood, that they're basically ditching the fork of Ethereum to move to an EOS based chain.
And bitshares was mainly just a place to trade the token all along, probably suggested and recommended by Stan.
