Is it possible to Own EOS Legally in the U.S.?

The title is seriously a question. I am genuinely seeking the council of the Steemit community, because I admittedly, am finding out this legal information a little later than I should have 😕. But I know I am not the only one, so this may also help others, if there are some helpful comments.

As I am sure most of you already know , Block.one is restricted from selling EOS in the U.S. because EOS is not a security, like the US government wants it to be, so they can control/regulate it. So that basically means it is not legal to invest in #EOS from the U.S.A because it is not registered as a security. I know it is not always that clear-cut with crypto so Pleeease chime in if I am wrong.

I can see how it is going to be like it's own economy resembling #Bitshares and #Steemit, but on steroids! And I also can see why the developers are trying to keep it truly decentralized and technically don't really need the U.S. because the rest of the world is so far ahead with #cryptocurrency networkds.

Yet I just saw that Google is working on their own #blockchain 🤨

Looking at what others were doing, I found many are using a VPN to be able to register the EOS tokens bought from an exchange. Yes, if you don't register your EOS tokens with EOS.io then they aren't valid! And when you go to the EOS.io website it reads your IP address so it won't allow anyone in the U.S. to register tokens purchased from another exchange (when using an U.S.A IP address).

So the question issssss, if you bought EOS from another exchange AND registered them using a VPN, will they still be valid once EOS goes live in June of 2018, and is that even legal? What would someone do, exchange EOS for BTC?

Can anyone within the Steemit community help me to answer even one of these questions?

It gets frustrating because there is nothing really on the "interwebs" showing what will happen after the launch in June 2018. I know we can't tell the future, but even the EOS.io website doesn't really specify.

What happens to everyone in the U.S. that already purchased and registered, and have it in an #ETH wallet?

Any type of information would be sincerely appreciated, not for the upvotes (though always appreciated) but just for the sake of knowing.

Technologically Frustrated,
