Puerto Rican Blockchain community members need your help! 🚨✈️

Fabian Vélez and myself, Manuel Pons, are very interested in attending the EOS Tulip Conference that is happening in San Francisco during the days of June 7th to the 13th! The conference will be covering topics from being a block producer to developing and confidently launching your own dAPP on the EOS platform.

Who are we?

We are both active members/leaders of the local blockchain community in the Puerto Rico. We have a clear focus on growing and developing the local blockchain talent by spreading educational resources through workshops, networking events, college chapters, and hackathons through local nonprofit organizations, such as Link PR, that we are both leading.

Manuel Pons was the Community Manager for EduBlock, and was one of the organizers behind the Restart Week Hackathon, he also helped with the creation of student chapters in various universities throughout the island. He is now the Director of Outreach for LinkPR. On top of this, he’s a developer with a very keen interest in dAPPs and social impact.

Fabián Vélez, born in the rural area of Puerto Rico is the President and Co-Founder of LinkPR, a nonprofit organization that has been providing blockchain 101 workshops and networking events for the local blockchain community consistently since its inception in late november 2017. Fabián has also been a front-end web developer, a UI/UX designer for over 4 years now, a tech enthusiast and an entrepreneur. He is currently learning to program on different Blockchains, such as EOS, to create projects and give workshops that are based on the EOS Blockchain, among others, for Puerto Rico, to teach students all around the country about Blockchain and how they can use it to solve many problems and create a better future for everyone through the Link nonprofit. These workshops and events have seen an ever growing crowd. LinkPR has two hackathons scheduled and many other workshops and networking events for the year 2018 .

Why should we go? + Giving back to the community

We see this as a great opportunity to get a more direct and in-depth look into the EOS ecosystem. We plan on taking everything we learn in this conference and take it back to Puerto Rico to spread the knowledge and grow the EOS community. This will also help the planned Link PR’s EOS workshop on June 14th in Puerto Rico to have a bigger impact and better content considering we will have spent a week learning from the people at the forefront of the platform.

Apart from educating the community, we will also document the experience in steemit both through vlogs and blogs so everyone can see what the event is like and how we are navigating the community.

Our main focus is Puerto Rico’s development and we see this as a key opportunity that we wouldn’t want to miss. Unfortunately, the tickets for the conference plus the airplane tickets are out of our price range. This is why we decided to reach out to this great community for help to turn this from an idea into reality.

What is needed?

As of right now, thanks to our great friends America and Penelope from the @cybercodetwins, we currently have one “main event” ticket (covers the first two days of the conference) and a 35% discount code!

Even though we’d be happy to attend the conference for the launch party and the expo, we are really interested in the workshop event that includes a pass to the 2-Day conference, an opportunity to pitch our nonprofit at the conference to help us continue working on Blockchain education in the island and a 3 day workshop on EOS. These tickets (not counting any possible discounts) have a cost of $2999. The total cost of the plane tickets for two adults vary from $1600-1800 (this is an estimate due to increased and the fluctuations that might occur with the date of the flight getting closer).

So our goal in order to attend the workshops, accounting for the 35% discount coupon, would be a total of $7248.15 or 0.86btc (as of May 30, 2018).

We believe that our mission to educate Puerto Ricans, create Blockchain technological solutions and connect the Blockchain community in Puerto Rico through local nonprofits, such as Link PR, is an extraordinary cause to contribute. By contributing to this cause you are not only helping us reach our dreams as individuals, you are also shaping the future of Puerto Rico to a better and more prosperous country. If any of you incredible people feel inclined to help out with this, we are currently accepting crypto and PayPal donations. Any amount that gets us closer to our goal would mean the world to us. We will also write a story after the trip so you can all see all the amazing happens you made possible with your contribution through photos and a steemit post. If you want to be refunded in case we don't gather up the necessary funds, please leave a memo with your name so we know who to reimburse

Good luck with the fundraiser... What is happening in Puerto Rico is like a microcosm of what will inevitably happen globally... Would love for you guys to make it, hopefully I'll see you there... #BlockchainFOREVER!!

That is exactly how it feels and the incredible part is this isn't the first time this has happened in Puerto Rico. We have been a historical testing ground for special economic zones (first one was established in the island in 1947) and science experiments (birth control pills).

Thank you for the support, Hope to see/meet you there as well.

Ahhhhh! I saw this post too late. It has been 7 days, darn.
When you return, let's meet. I am sure we know the same people here in Puerto Rico. I am eager to help.

Here is my most recent post about new life in Puerto Rico. Check it out.
