Everyday we find ourselves amazed at how supportive and welcoming the Blockchain community is, and this time was no exception! After a week of crowdsourcing and reaching out to the community, we (@favovelez and I) finally were able to attend and have a great experience at the 2018 TulipConference in San Francisco, California. With over 40 sessions, 100 startups, 1000 very talented people, and over 100 speakers the conference was truly a once in a lifetime to both of us with many great memorable moment.
Quick rundown of some of our favorite moments
First day (June 7th)
Margaret Hagan
- Talking about DoNotPay, Dubai DIFC Court of the future
HODL vs Traditional Investments*
- This panel was probably the one with the most tension due to the nature of the topic. On one side you had Timothy Lewis and Jeremy Gardner supporting the “HODL” investments as they argued that the platform is a lot more secure, transparent and accessible than traditional investment platforms. On the other side there was Kieran Arasaratnam and Prof. Wulf Kaal that argued that “HODL” investments were just as bad, if not even worse than traditional investments due to their high market value manipulation and volatile nature. The two sides had a heated exchange for about 15 minutes right after Jeremy Gardner called Wulf Kaal an “idiot” for using the market cap of a asset as a metric for quality until the argument died down and Chris Coney, the panel moderator, said “gotta let the argument die down” followed by applause and laughter by the audience.
Waystone Lunch
- Complimentary lunch at waystone was unforgettably good. It was honestly one of the best sandwiches we’ve ever had, and for FREE!
Block Producers Meetings - Right after the day sessions ended all the Block Producers at the conference, met up and got in a call to decide on whether or not to launch the mainnet. They opted to vote “no go” and wait until an update for the other day. Almost got to witness the GO vote live.
Second Day (June 8th)
Dev Track AMA
- definitely our favorite panel, great and constructive back and forth between extremely talented people about different protocols(eos, lamden, eth), security issues (turing complete systems vs non turing complete) and ease of use tech! Really amazing value from the panelists Phil Mesnier, Nathan James, Eugene Luzgin, Stuart Farmer, and Ravikanth Andhavarapu.
- BP Summit
- Second floor got crowded and more people were coming in each second to hear and meet their favorite BP candidates. It was great to finally put faces and shake hands with some of these great teams like @blockliberty, @eosdac, @shEOS, @eostribe, @eos.detroit, EOSTRIBE , EOS Meso. Interesting arguments about initial funding origin for BPs and team sizes (quality vs quantity).
- Growing the EOS community - Stephane Bisson, Jim Hewitt, Amy Asandra, Naomi and Mayra did a great job at explaining how they, as Block Producers, have engaged with the local communities they are from to go beyond just being BP’s and actually having a positive impact.
EOS GO GO GO PARTY
While on our way to our room to change, we were paying close attention to the BP conference call and witnessed the GO decision. Now we’re getting ready to “GO” to the launch party and singalong to some M.I.A. 🔥🔥
Now we’re even more excited to attend the workshop event and have fun with the EOS mainnet. ;)
Special thanks to Niki Saletta, Restart. One, @VirtualGrowth, and the @CybercodeTwins for helping us attend to this amazing event and helping Puerto Rico and the community become better and stronger one step at a time!
Thank you very much for an update of the Tulip Conference!
waiting for more news, hehehehe
Best regards
Tom
U will hear more from them. Can't wait for them to share their experience with the EOS dev workshops
