Popping in here to give my two cents. Eric has been a huge part of the Western worlds efforts to interact with the EOSIO software. He started the community testnets and has been a huge help to those considering running for BP.
Essentially, if anyone in the western world has actively been trying to participate in EOS they would know about Eric and SW/eden.
Which is why this is suspect; how could you not know there was already an EOS Sweden in the community? I would recommend changing your name so that neither organization is EOS Sweden to avoid this confusion - perhaps you could be EOS Stockholm?
I’m sure your team had good intentions, but trust me, you do not want the community thinking you piggybacked this name.
it could be possible issue. because of normal people could be confused for this.
Probably SW/Eden was part of EOS Community from beginning... But how big was that? We are not sure, but, I assume that:
Moreover, 1000s of EOS Token Holders may have never heard about Eric. Like we never heard about him. Majority of Token Holders were never part of Test Networks and/or having any communication with Eric. They have no idea bout this....
Well this is where just a doing research is really important. Now we know you had no intention of doing anything illegal. In addition, sometimes people forget to do the research.
Spending 2 minute looking up the folks who are working on the EOS blockchain locally would have revealed who Eric and Vahid are. In fact, Just the other day Ivan on Tech (who has 173,000 followers) was on his YouTube show and gave a "huge shout out" to Eric and Vahid from EOS Sweden. Someone responded that "We EOS Sweden and we are not Eric." Ivan's response was "I don't know who you are then. Because I know Eos Sweden and if your are not Eric, I'm not sure who you are."
What that demonstrates is that even though we are rebranding there are still thousands of people (influential people) who see us as EOS Sweden. Even when we tell them the new name -- which was only change a month ago they will still associate us with our old name.
It's clear you want to do the right thing. You have no intention of defrauding the EOS blockchain. If you did receive votes that were intended for someone else, what would you do?
vafan skärp er grabbar, riiiiiiiiiiiiktig fuling har ni gjort (english: get your shit together and change name)
@ivanli Yes you are 100% right, people who did not follow the rules made by EOS GO (EOS Community) and Swedish Laws; should change their name..... By the way we are using BP ID as swedencornet in EOS to stop them pretending us. This does not mean that we are disclaiming to be EOS + TELOS Sweden!
Hello, thanks for advice. We are 100% willing to listen, understand and cooperate with everyone in EOS communities with good attention. We respect everyone including "SW/Eden". We really did not know about Eric from beginning (still we do not know him). Eric and "SW/Eden" may have done great work and we respect them all. We thank-you to them all. We do not have any issues with them. We are "not" competing with "SW/Eden" and we are willing to give our vote to them as well. We do not want any conflict and we want to work within legal boundaries.
Sweden is well-known due to regulations. We did (and are still doing) our best to comply with both "regulations in Sweden" and "standards established by EOS Community". So we started first looking into unique names in steemit that do not conflict with anyone else. You can not have 2 identical names in steemit. And we found @eos.sweden as empty name that no body owns. As a 2nd step we also did check trademarks database in Sweden https://www.prv.se/sv/ and we did not find that anyone owns EOS Sweden. It was available and we did not find any legal company that did any attempt to register it. So after that we did decided to choose it.
We are not expert in everything and let me say that we may make mistakes. All humans make mistakes (no one is perfect). But we tried our best not to have same name as "SW/Eden". They are "SW/Eden" (please read their posts). Moreover I do not think that two or more Block Producers can have identical names in EOS Mainnet. So there is 100% guarantee that we will not have identical names in EOS echo system. [Also in Steemit more than one accounts can not be identical, it is technically NOT Possible] So, I do not understand where is the conflict?? And finally we will not compete with them or anyone else, instead we will cooperate and focus on establishing a mutual understanding and trust with everyone.
We welcome the success to everyone and we believe that everyone can contribute and benefit from EOS.IO echo system.
Hey Gents,
I don't think anyone believes you have any bad intentions towards SW/Eden. We think it is awesome that you have jumped into the EOS space and are thinking about becoming a Block Producer.
I don't think @summerskin or @cjane are arguing with you about the legality of your name choice. They are only pointing out that it will cause confusion.
As Summerskin mentioned, Eric joined the community very early on, launching the first public Testnet. He was the 2nd BP to announce his candidacy. When he did that, he chose to use the name EOS Sweden. Eric has connected with thousands of folks in the EOS community around the world. This has happened through Telegram, Twitter, other social media platforms and the Testnets. The thousands he connected with have known him as Eric from EOS Sweden. In fact, way back at the beginning, when he announced his candidacy with the folks at EOSgo that's what he used AND his URL on that EOSgo BP portal, is https://bp.eosgo.io/listing/eos-sweden/
You probably didn't notice your URL is the same except with a "2" after eos-sweden https://bp.eosgo.io/listing/eos-sweden-2/ That's really confusing.
Eric and Vahid wanted to get away from that name but were slammed with all the work they were doing with other BP candidates and didn't get around to changing the name until the start of April when I joined the team. Since we knew everyone saw them as EOS Sweden we decided to have a longer transition to the name SW/Eden much like Nissan did in the 80s when they dropped the Datsun brand.
In regard to the EOSgo BP Portal, I know it can take time to fill those out and you are running another businness. So it's understandable that you didn't have time to to look at the other BP candidates when you created your profile. Had you looked on the map, you would have seen SW/Eden right up the road from you and would have noticed their URL. If you had clicked on our site you would have read the words "EOS Sweden is SW/Eden".
Life get's busy, so you probably missed the meet-ups that Vahid hosted in Stockholm under the name EOS Sweden. Everyone knows Telegram can be chaotic, so you probably also missed BPs talking about Eric and other people like Thomas Cox from Block. One referring to Eric as "Eric from EOS Sweden".
No one is questioning your integrity. As has been pointed out by others though, keeping a name that another brand has used in the past will create voter confusion. You have stated clearly that is not your intent, Which is fantastic. We can also see that you are wanting to abide by the law. Which is also great. Could Eric have done some things different in the beginning - Possibly.
I think the only thing people are trying to avoid is confusion for the voter. We can post all we want about the name change. You can post all you want about not being SW/Eden. However, just as you demonstrated by missing all the different things about Eric and his previous incarnation as EOS Sweden, people won't always see what they need to see to make the best choice. Therefore, there will be voter confusion.
I know because of everything you have said, that is the last thing you would want.
You have some options to consider.
Hello @seanxa
Thanks for explanation. Voters will be confused if they see 2 identical names as eos-sweden for Block Producers to cast there vote after chain launches. Is that even technically possible to have 2 Block Producers with identical names? I don't think so. We are not ready yet and I assume SW/Eden is already ready and producing blocks in test networks. So there should not be any confusion from day 1 for voters to cast vote. Whenever we will be ready (if we gets ready in future) we will ensure that we do not use identical name in EOS as Block Producer's ID. We are 100% willing to listen, understand and cooperate with everyone in EOS communities. By the way our logo looks very different than SW/Eden and there is no confusion!
Identical names is not what will cause voter confusion. Some people will see EOS Sweden and think oh that must be Eric because they didn't hear about the name change - no matter how much we post - some people will miss it. There is also a good chance someone will tell their friends to vote for Eric at EOS Sweden and then their vote might not go where they intended.
Voter confusion is not about identical names but about an old name being reused by someone else.
You are right, it will be super helpful that you are waiting a bit before launching. I appreciate that you are so willing to listen and be open and consider the best way to avoid Voter confusion in the future.
The issue is not legal names, who has what registered, etc. It is a community issue.
The community thinks of EOS Sweden as Eric and his team.
It would be in good taste for you to change your name. All you are doing by keeping the name is asking for an arbitration case once the chain launches.
My advice still stands. It is best to choose a different name since EOS Sweden is so closely aligned with Eric and his team. If you pop into Telegram and ask who is EOS Sweden, people would say Eric, Vahid, and Sean.
You are still new to the community so I would think there is plenty of time for you to change your name. A name is not worth damaging your reputation in the community.
Do you mean that they are not "SW/Eden"?
Another thing is that we will never do anything illegal. If we will not have any legal justification (and moral justification) then we will not use it (It's so simple). We will only use it if law permits us. Let's see how it goes...
We also respect all communities (including "SW/Eden"). We will never have identical EOS Block Producer ID that matches with Eric's ID (or any other's ID). We may not even be competing with them (for several months) as we are yet in pre-planning phase. We Welcome them in the EOS.IO echo system with open arms...
SW/Eden is the correct name. In the very recent past - before you came along they were EOS Sweden. That's been established.
It's great - you want to be legal. That is really good. I think you might have missed what I wrote about voter confusion though. That's the deal we are talking about - voter confusion. Most people don't do the research they should - that's normal. You showed us that by not looking on the EOSgo BP map. That happens - no big deal.
You might bring up the legal thing again, so let me just say in advance, that's not what any of these other folks are talking about. What we are talking about, is voter confusion and making sure that doesn't happen.
That's all there is to it.
