You can tell when a new form of entertainment has reached its tipping point when mainstream media - with no history of covering the given subject in any kind of depth - starts covering it off with primer ‘special reports’ followed by more regular news/features and dedicated sections.
Hence we noted the following sentence, which kicked off a recent Daily Mail article, with great interest: “The eSports industry grows every year, but something feels different about 2018. With all the changes coming to existing games and leagues, as well as the addition of new ones, the year ahead seems bigger, more important.”
One of the reasons for this excitement is that big sports investors like Robert Kraft (owner of the New England Patriots) have gotten in on the game by buying up eSports teams.
Why? Because investors like this see the crowds flocking to watch competitive matches, whether in real world or virtual arenas.
Superdata says that over 213 million people will watch competitive gaming this year, and that audience is on track to swell to 303 million by 2019. Those are huge numbers within the context of video games.
“Right now, the growth is quick, with forecasters saying industry revenue will soar into the billions of dollars sooner rather than later,” continues the Daily Mail. “But if everything goes well in 2018, that growth could become exponential.”
With these developments, and as the studio making SKARA, we believe the time is right to launch a new multiplayer game into the eSports mix, powered by some unique innovations--like cryptocurrency as prizes.
Our team is working to implement competitive tournament prizes paid in our own cryptocurrency, the SKARAT (500 SKRT is worth approximately 1 Ethereum), starting early this year.
“We are working hard to make it possible for anyone to bet SKARATs on the matches, opening up the possibility of winning big for more than just the competitive players,” explained Cesar Ortega, one of the founders of SKARA.
Ortega, who worked in finance before entering the video game space, has been integral to constructing the eSports industry in the UK.
“I really believe eSports is going to be a major new way for people to share the experience of video games,” he said. “When people can get together and have fun, that’s meaningful and eSports is going to take that fun to a new level.”
SKARA’s eSports offering centers around a team-based action game that has been in production since 2013. The game, developed in London and Spain, will be released on January 23rd 2018.
That’s the same day the SKARA Token also goes on sale.
SKARA leagues will be forming in the months to follow, beginning in Europe and expanding globally after that.
