Every time I asked my mother what I should get as a gift for someone, she said:
"Money, money is the best gift you can give anyone."
*I do not know if it's because I'm more westernized, but for me, giving money as a gift is not something wise. It has no sincerity, no effort and no need for thought or understanding - it does not say anything about your relationship with the person you give the gift.*
The money is practical, but it's just money. It's something that can be obtained anytime. If I had to choose between giving a well thought-out gift and showing my understanding of them or the money, I definitely chose that gift.
