As Nestle celebrates 150 years, I cant help but ask myself some thought provoking questions like

  • what could possibly make a company/brand remain relevant in the market place for 150years

  • what are they doing right that other companies are not doing

  • why do most company owners outlive their companies? I.e, why do most companies die before their pioneers

How it all started

It all started in 1867, when a man by the name of Henri Nestle from Switzerland, saw a global need and decided to proffer a solution to the need. An era when many infants died of malnutrition, due to lack of effective breast milk alternatives.

Henri Nestle learnt about a child who couldn't breast feed, and decided to try his "farine lactéé" infant food, which happened to be the only food the baby could digest, the baby survives, and like normal, words spread through the world about this awesome success. with commitment and determination, he went ahead to build one of the longest lasting companies the world has ever known.

Its so interesting to know that people now consume over one billion of nestle service in just one day. This company operates in over 197 countries today, and employs 340,000 individuals. It also still maintains its "Nest" Logo

Diversification

In 2011 Nestle took a huge leap in the nutrition industry, extending her leadership in nutrition, health, by creating the renowned Nestle Health Science. Nestle Health Science develops nutritional healthcare products, specifically for optimal brain care.

Nestle did not just stop in beverages, but decided to spread its tentacles down to other product and services like Frozen foods, ice creams, etc. it is said that in 1938, people would rather start their day with the world's first great tasting instant coffee. Nestle offered lots of convenience, that became very important in times like world war two. during this time, more women entered the workforce, and people in their numbers, demanded foods that were easy to prepare.

Conclusion

The pioneer of the Nestle company understand early, that no man is an ireland, they understand the value in team work, and also that working with the best staffs that understands the vision of the company, will always lead to optimum performance

He also understand that ideas are awesome, but we need more than just an idea to make things work out. we need other factors like commitment, perseverance, Grit, enthusiasm etc

Nestle saw a need, and provided a solution to the world. solution providers rule the world, which is why I always feel pity for complainers. Complaining is one of the easiest thing to do whenever we face obstacles, but the best thing to do is to be solution oriented at all times.
