Europe Determined to Defend Iran's Nuclear Treaty

ritish Prime Minister Theresa May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron regretted the decision of US President Donald Trump. Trump decides to quit the international nuclear agreement (JCPoA) that limits Iran's nuclear project.

Even so, the three closest US allies state that they are determined to keep the deal.
"Together, we emphasize our ongoing commitment to JCPoA This agreement remains important for our mutual security," said the three in a joint statement.
"We recall that JCPoA was unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council in resolution 2231. This resolution remains a binding international legal framework for dispute resolution on Iran's nuclear program We urge all parties to remain committed to full implementation and act in a spirit of responsibility , "continued the statement.

According to the IAEA, Iran continues to comply with the restrictions set by JCPoA, in line with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Agreement. Along with that the UK, Germany and France will remain parties to the JCPoA.
"Our government remains committed to ensuring the agreement is upheld, and will work with all remaining parties for an agreement to ensure this includes including ensuring sustainable economic benefits to the Iranian people associated with the agreement," the statement said.

On the occasion, the three also urged the United States to ensure that the JCPoA structure can remain intact, and to avoid taking action that impedes full implementation by all other parties in the deal.
"Having been engaged with the US Administration extensively over the past few months, we call on the United States to do everything possible to retain profits for nuclear non-proliferation posed by JCPoA, enabling continued enforcement of its key elements," urged the three European nations.

They also called on Iran to refrain from responding to the US decision. Iran must continue to fulfill its own obligations under an agreement, cooperate fully and on time with the requirements of the IAEA inspection.
The IAEA itself must be able to continue to implement long-term verification and monitoring programs without limitation or obstacles. In turn, Iran must continue to receive the sanctioned allowance for a while to remain in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

"There is no doubt: Iran's nuclear program must always remain peaceful and civil," the statement said in a release received by Sindonews, Jakarta, Thursday (10/05/2018).

Even so, they also point out that a number of other key issues are also worth noting. The long-term framework for Iran's nuclear program after some JCPoA provisions expires, after 2025, should be determined. All three are concerned about Iran's ballistic missile program and its unstable regional activity, especially in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

"We have begun constructive and mutually beneficial discussions on these issues, and E3 is committed to continuing with key partners and concerned nations across the region," the statement said.
"We and our Foreign Minister will reach out to all parties in JCPoA to find a positive path forward," the statement said.
