Just because you make good grades doesn't make you smarter. Common sense doesn't comes with degree.
The A's and B's only means that you put EFFORTS in memorizing what the lecturer wants you to memorize and write it on the exam sheet exactly how the examiner wants, most of which you forget immediately after the exam. This is not COMMON SENSE. There is a huge difference between EFFORTS you put in memorizing historical facts and COMMON SENSE. I think Grade is a wrong yardstick to use in measuring a person's intellectual capacity.
Throughout my years in school, I found out that the variation of my results in each semester tends to be proportional to the amount of efforts I put in. When I see a bad result i don't frown, i smile because i know I never put EFFORTS and if I had put more efforts it could have been more better. When I see a question I can't answer in the exam hall, I still smile because I know if I had read and memorize that particular handout from which the question came out from I would be able to answer it.
In school, there are no dumb students, only lazy and dedicated students.
COMMON SENSE doesn't have any business to do with good or bad grades.
If I'm looking for dedicated students, yes, I'll go with their grades but, talking about creativity and innovation!! It's a big No for me.
Good grades doesn't make a person reasonable.
I'm not saying making the A's and B's is bad, of course it gives you advantage in getting salary earning jobs, for those that want to settle for that. Efforts is an important virtue of a successful man. All I'm saying is: efforts in only trying to memorize formulas just at the end side of getting the A's which is the general school route to make good degree is not common sense.
Common sense should not only be about putting efforts in what you tend to score after the exams. Common sense is about putting efforts in memorizing, understanding, applying the knowledge of your field into the innovative society, diversifying your mental and reasoning territory and general knowledge.
This is common sense..... Common sense and innovative ability should never be subjected to the cramming and writting capacity of a person. There is more to creativity.
I'm agitating because one of the biggest problem of the country is accumulated DUMB UNCREATIVELY GOOD DEGREE HOLDERS occupying major industries and in our economy system and making them stagnant, despising the INNOVATIVE CREATIVE AVERAGE DEGREE HOLDERS.
Only if the Nigerian employing system should start giving less priority to grades and more to the potential and creativity of the citizens, NIGERIA would become an icon of economic and financial stability.
