At the onset of my adventure in running I experienced only punishment. This is because I was goofing off in gym class and had to complete 8 more laps ;[ My gym coach was excited to see how well I could keep on keeping on and so was I. There was something about distance running that brought to my brain thoughts I may never had experienced had I not committed to the long haul ideals of what is created by the work put into runs. Now I have a dream to kick ass-phalt, go into hours of flowing through pools of water, and cycling like kings of chaos for miles and miles and miles becoming Ironmen. A few habits of mine which contribute to my overcoming powers are reading poems, short stories and quotes so I’ll be sharing those often as I battle other habits. Stories connect with our inner child and keep that spark of creativity alive and this is exactly why I’m passionate about the idea of completing sprint triathlons and working our way up to Ironman distance. The cross training is child’s play. Jumping in puddles, riding a bicycle, and running into the sunset is always keeping fresh my views of renewability of my little inner guy.
Today I began a session of core work then went into my HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training - my 3 miles level and then I got my swimmy on simply doing 3 sets of 200 meters 25 second breaks between.
Breakdown
Core: Choose four different abdomen exercises and stick with 12-15 reps 3-4 sets. I really enjoy flutter kicks, the roman chair, medicine ball work, and planks.
HIIT: I get a treadmill moving at 3 MPH and warm up for 3 minutes. For five minutes I yog at 7 MPH (3 min-8 min mark) this earns me 12 sit ups. I let the treadmill roll and complete my crunches and jump right back on. I complete 3 sets of this and then bump my yog to a jog for 1 min. After a 1 min jog at 7.5 MPH I burst for 30 seconds at 8.5 MPH. After the burst I’ve earned myself 12 push ups. I complete 3 sets of this and usually get myself to 3 miles. When I get focused on 4-6 miles of run being my target I just increase my workload to 4 crunch sets and 4 push up sets and then 2 crunch sets and 2 push up sets.
Above all, the brain engagement is why I seek to cross the finish line. On the journey to be an Ironman my brain is to engage in activities and thought processes that will enrich its experience. I love thinking about my brain and the huge advancements the grey matter of others being challenged brought quiet, reality shattering, goal getting achievements into existence. Keep healthy boundaries now in contrast to the crazy stunts I’ve pulled ignites my passion to go to an extreme for the best kind of living….living with enthusiasm.
If you are reading this line I appreciate you taking the time to roll up on our scene of Ironman hopes. Please connect and share any internal knowledge you carry, comment, and question me.
To your enthusiasm, Inna
