This is my late entry for #beautifulsunday hosted by @ace108. Life has been very hectic and intense for me during the last two weeks. Luckily, I was only exhausted and got a heat stroke from all my activities. Somehow, my Sunday English class for kids from the village was going quite well.
Surprisingly, the young students arrived too early for my class so they had to entertain themselves in the garden. They brought along two friends who would like to join my class. In fact, I was expecting only about five or six students as some might want to drop out. But the total number has come up to eleven children. Luckily, two brothers went to visit their aunt in Korat. So, there was enough space for nine kids.
I was quite impressed that they all did their homework according to their own interpretation of my Thai instruction. I could not speak the local dialect so they would have some difficulty in accurately understanding my formal Thai wordings. But, at schools they all have to read and write in formal Thai. This time I could remember all the kids’ names and I began my class by asking them to tell a story about their impression during the last week. They did not understand the word ‘impression’ in formal Thai. This was very interesting and challenging to me! I have to learn to communicate with young students in Thai!
The English class lasted about one hour and thirty minutes. These kids were making very good progress as they were very attentive and serious about speaking English. My gardener has become the school principal as she always prepared fruits of these kids after class. The youngest kid, studying at grade two, found it rather difficult to keep up with his eldest brother. But I just let him sitting there without putting any pressure on him; he seemed to enjoy his friends’ company.
I am also trying to teach these kids to express themselves and their thoughts in class. Most Thai students dread speaking in front of the class as they are timid and shy. Slowly I would teach them to learn to listen to others and exchanging ideas in public. And, hopefully their English pronunciation would become less heavy with Thai accent. I never taught small kids English before and this Sunday school gives me food for thought and some funny moments too.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Cheers.

Thank you very much! How nice!
Thank you very much!
I think all your Sundays are going to be beautiful and sublime with these beautiful children. I love what you are doing here.
Thank you so much for your very encouraging comment. I am learning a lot from these children. They have lots of energy and are very serious about learning English! I was never so serious like these children!
There’s actually one boy who has some emotional problem but he was away at the moment. His parents are quite well off so they don’t have much time for their sons. I am a bit concerned about him and have to find the right approach towards him. This is going to be interesting as he’s the oldest in this group and tends to dominate other kids. He feels quite insecure and is afraid to show his weakness.
Have a wonderful day!
Cheers.
What a wonderful way for you to assist these lovely young children. I am sure they will be blessed abundantly for all your hard work. Very impressive my friend.
Oh! Dear! This is a small gesture to contribute towards the nearby community and this will help me understand local village life; I am a city dweller who would like to have simple life in natural surrounding.
These kids are teaching me a lot about growing up and how to share simple things in life. So, it’s very refreshing to see them acting without fear or inhibition in my house. I hope to help them a little along their ways of growing up to becoming loving and kind adults. This will make my surrounding very peaceful indeed! So, it’s a process of establishing the right kind of supportive relationship with local children for mutual happiness!
Cheers.
Cheers to you. It is and will continue to be a very rewarding experience for all of you. It warms my heart to see such kindness being shared to the younger generations.
Thank you very much! Let have some cool wine!🍸🍸🍾
Great way to help others... Love the bright colors in Thailand ...:-)
Thank you very much! Nice day with nice kids! They are very delightful and polite kids. I hope to give them some help with their English classes so that they could compete with rich kids in expensive private schools.
Hopefully I would be able to contribute towards the local community’s strength in some small way. So, my local surrounding would be healthy and happy too. It’s an interdependent relationship of exchanging energy and good will for common good.
Have a great day!
