Thousands Last year, religious sites or places used for mystical rituals are usually built on high ground. Usually the selected place is mountains, because such a place is considered the closest to where the gods reside.
Currently, for reasons of practicality and accessibility are not many religious sites built on the mountain. But there are still some temple buildings, monasteries, or an ancient church on a mountain that still survives to this day. Some more deliberately built in the modern era and become a tourist attraction for the traveler or pilgrim.
Because of its location on the top of a mountain or hill, these places of worship then appear to be floating above the clouds. Such a scene certainly adds a sense of wonder to anyone who visits.
1. Meteora
Meteora Is a form of rock formations in Greece. Precisely on the northwestern edge of the Thessalia Plain, adjacent to Kalambaka, the Pineios River, and the Pindus Mountains. Cliff Towering similar to this pillar is the site of one of the most important Eastern Orthodox monastery complex in the land of the gods of Olympus.

The six monasteries standing on it is a stunning architectural beauty to look at. That's why the site is deliberately preserved by including it in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
2. Mount Tayun Taoist Temple
The Taoist temple on Mount Tayun is one of the most remote and most amazing religious sites. This tiny temple stands on an area of 6 square meters at the top of the cliff as high as 1664 meters.
Mount Tayun Taoist Temple is one of the important sites for the flow of Taoism. It is located in Chaiping, Shaanxi Province and has been established since the 1500s.
Tayun is taken from the word ta and nun which means cloud pagoda. Because this place does look like standing on a cloud.
3. Shiwa Tungnath Temple
Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is the highest of the five temples in Panch Kedar. It is located in the Tungnath mountains, Rudraprayag District, Uttarakhand state, India.
Tunganath Which means the king of the whole mountain peak is the mountain that forms the valley of the river Mandakini and Alaknanda. Located at an altitude of 3,680 meters and just below the peak of Chandrashila. The temple is believed to be 5000 years old and occupies the third position in a power sequence at Panch Kedar. The temple is also mentioned in the Pandavas legend that is told in the epic Mahabharata.
4. Katskhi Pillar
Katskhi Pillar Is a monolithic limestone cliff located in the village of Katskhi, Imereti land area, near the city of Chiatura, Georgia. It is about 40 meters high. At the top of the Katskhi Pillar stands one of the most extreme religious sites. The ruins of a 150-square-meter church are respected by the locals as the Pillars of Life.
The Church that has been dwelling debris is considered a sacred place and has been surrounded by legends. The place was untouched by researchers until 1944.
5. Haci Hafiz Mosque Yusuf Yilmaz
In the Haci Hafiz Mosque Yusuf Yilmaz is one of the places of worship of Muslims in Turkey. The mosque stands on the top of Mount Kibble and is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.
Haci Hafiz Yusuf Yilmaz was inaugurated by Turkish President Erdogan on 14 August 2015. The design of the mosque was designed by Yusuf Yilmaz by imitating the historic mosque building of Semsi Ahmet Pasa in the neighborhood of Uskudar, Istanbul, Turkey.
The mosque building has 275 square meters and is equipped with a 13 meter high dome as well as a 27-meter tower of the building.
6. Adam's Peak
Adam's Peak or also called Samanala Kanda and Sri Paada is a 2,243 meter high mountain located in central Sri Lanka. According to Buddhist Belief, the mountain keeps the sacred footprint (Sripaada) of the Buddha.
As one of the important sites associated with the Buddha, Adam's Peak is often visited by pilgrims. Usually celebrated in the Sripaada season which starts from the day unduwap for six months until the day Wesak poya. Region Along the mountain is a wildlife sanctuary, accommodating many species ranging from elephants to leopards, and includes many endemic species.
7. Kapan Gumba
