Midwives will play a more important role

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the Midwives to play a more important role in reaching quality healthcare services to mothers and children in remote areas.

He said, I hope that Midwives will play an important role in delivering quality health care to mother and child in remote areas.

Sheikh Hasina said that skilled and trained Midwives can play an important role in achieving continuous success in reducing mother and child mortality. The present government is committed to ensuring all facilities and environment in the field of pregnant mothers and newborns.

The Prime Minister called upon the people today to give a speech on the occasion of International Midwifter Day on 5 May tomorrow.

On this occasion, the theme of the day is 'Advancing Midwives ahead of providing quality services to mother and child health', he said, greeted everyone associated with this profession.

She said her government has been implementing a comprehensive program to reach healthcare in the doorstep of the people. Various steps have been taken to prevent pregnant mothers and newborns from improving care and mortality. As a result, it has been able to achieve Millennium Development Goals by reducing the rate of child mortality before the scheduled time. For this reason, in 2010, the United Nations gave MDG awards.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We established new hospitals in the country, increased number of beds, specialized hospitals and nursing institutes.

In order to provide health care to remote areas, we started 18,000 Community Clinics and Union Health Centers. 30 types of medicines are being provided to patients free of government hospitals. This has led to significant progress in mother and child health care. As a result, today we have achieved the status of developing countries. '
The Prime Minister said that there are 3-year Diploma in Midwifery courses in 38 nursing educational institutes of government and 16 nursing educational institutes in private sector.

Apart from this, various initiatives have been initiated to create Midwest Education with three thousand Midwives, he said, to ensure the health of mother and child, all district-upazila health complexes and union sub-centers will be appointed as a trained midwife.
