Château de Poudelay

in #esteem6 years ago

One of the interesting guest houses we stayed in years ago while traveling through France was the Château de Poudelay in the "little Pyrenees" about 60km from Toulouse.

The house was surrounded by nature and many lovely trails to go for walks around the property.

The Castle dates from the 16th - 19th century and it's claim to fame was that Napoleon lll had stayed there many times. I had to look him up, but it seems he was a nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte and ruled France from 1848 to 1870.

This place looks special and I am sure looking back at these they bring back fond memories. I love France and could go there every year. I haven't been to this region yet and will at some point. Looking at these it makes me want to travel again.

I love France too, and am so glad that I did as much traveling there as I did before traveling became difficult for me. It is such a big wide wonderful world, isn't it?

Such a beautiful part of France and aren't their chateaus to die for? Just looking at it conjures up a different time in my life. Thankfully I'll be taking a leave of absence for a year or two from work and traveling once again.

This is so gorgeous, Melinda! I am sure you have plenty of stories about it!

!tip

Lucky you! When do you leave? Do you have a travel itinerary yet?

The papers are all filed for a leave of absence... and this fall is what I am shooting for. :)

The travel itinerary will start out after I finish some things in the Caribbean, but hopefully can get a few days here and there before and then the National Parks in our own United States first. I have done them all except the one in Alaska, but, this warrants a proper redo!

I'm excited! And the itinerary is apt to change if I find something that is a must see now.

So the real answer is I am working on it, and people are giving me all sorts of info on where and what, so that is pretty cool.

That sounds so cool! You are doing a road trip? Do you have a travel partner?

I am looking at recreational vehicles right now, I did a post on #MarketFriday on them! Oh, they have come a long way! Not to live in but to travel in the States and up to Alaska doing the Al-Can Trail and taking the Denali train.

The National Parks are best seen this way, for me anyway. The first one up will be Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park ( one of my favorites!)

Of course, I have a travel partner (or three) :) What fun would it be to not have anyone to share it with???

Good that you know people that can get away for that length of time! Jim and I bought one and lived in it for a month when we went to Arizona, and we sold it as soon as we got back home. I loved the convenience of the recreational vehicle, but I didn't love being a campground person.

Haha! I will keep it until I finish and then get rid of it also. I am not a campground person, but, I am not there to be a camper, I will be there to explore and where I sleep isn't that big a deal.

Such a lovely place :-D

Isn't it interesting? There was a lovely chapel on the grounds, too, but somehow I don't have any photos of that.

What a cool place, must have been ideal for time away

We stayed there a couple nights and went out exploring the area during the day. It was still cold at home, so it was great to fly to springtime!

cool you had time to explore it, back when I used to fly my favorite trips were leaving winter in one place and having a break in somewhere warmer ;)

Interesting Napoleon lll, Have to check him out an also II ....

I didn't do much research about the guy, so let me know if you find anything interesting!

old is gold..... brilliant photography.

A place that is magnificent and historic. I like something historic, certainly save a lot of meaning to study there. Back in the time of Napoleon.
Thanks for this My Friend

It was a beautiful place to visit!

That's a great area. We were there last winter and we loved it!

That is a great part of France, but then I have never found a part of the country that I didn't love!

What a magnificent place Melinda. I just love these old European country buildings and the scenery. So much charm and beauty; you must of fell like you went back in time. Not to forget that Napoleon III; what a thin waist, lol.

It was so beautiful, and like many of these centurys old places, I think our room may have still had some of the original dust. Don't you wonder if Napoleon the third did have that small of a waist or if the artist was just being flattering?

You think of the strangest things Melinda, an original dust. Well, I bet there were some particle leftovers for sure, lol. And I think he was fasten in a corset pretty tight, too 😂

The dust and dirt in the place was deep enough that some of it must have been original dust! It needed a good cleaning!

I think it's best not to think about it, lol.

Hello there, good to be here. How are you ?
Looks wonderful, France no doubt is amazing and beautiful. Share more of it if you have the stock.

I loved the time that I spent in France. Every once in awhile I share photos from there. Glad to hear from you.

That is wonderful for all of us here that we get to see such experiences more often. Glad to be here.

We all get to travel the world via Steem!

True, steemit is proving good for all

🎁 Hi @melinda010100! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

@dswigle wrote lately about: Wednesday Walk-Ing About Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

Howdy Melinda! wow what a place, and the countryside surrounding it looks gorgeous and peaceful! That guy looks like a real snob though. lol.

Ha! Are you jealous of his skinny waist? I think I read that he got elected president. The first elected president of France but then after two terms he didn't want to leave and so he declared himself emperor or some such thing. I'm not positive though, as my French history is very weak!

haha! he probably wore corsetts! That part about not wanting to leave and being the emperor sure sounds like a Napoleon for sure, that's really interesting!

Ahhh, corsetts! You may be right! I wouldn't have thought of that!

haha! I know that's a bizarre notion but it wouldn't surprise me. They said that Captain Kirk always wore a girdle on Star Trek to look trim in those tight fitting uniforms! lol. and that Napoleon guys waistline didn't look anywhere near natural to me!

Maybe the artist just wanted to make him look really good so that he got paid more for the portrait!

haha! that's probably exactly it! How are you doing today? I overslept and getting a late start.

Cuídate bien y cuida a tu familia y cuídate.

Such an adorable old place! Your story make me feel like I really miss traveling!
Thank you for inspiration and a light for my day today 🤗

Have you ever traveled in France?

Yes and no. When we traveled to Lisbon we had almost a whole day in Paris before changing flight. So we took a train and spent a day walking around.
Maybe because it was too short, or don't know why, but I did not feel the excitement and delight that they say.

But I'd like to see Northern France, and other places I've read about.

I love Paris and all of France. I hope you get to see more of it!

Me too. Thank you and have a nice weekend!

Fantastic photos @melinda010100 What an interesting place to stay. So much history and beauty with very picturesque surroundings. (U & R )

Thanks! I was an interesting place! I love France.

I'm sure I'd love France too Melinda. It's high on my bucket list. 😊

How many windows does this building have?

Ha! I have no idea! I didn't count them!

I see a funny face in the 2nd picture ! Do you spot it..? 😊

Ha! I do see it. I'm glad that you pointed it out!😃

I like to spot faces in houses, and also in the back of cars, when they have weird light shapes, it gives them some character...LoL

That sounds fun, but I won't want to stay there in the winter months! I bet that was a fun trip. France seems like such an interesting country to visit.

I got to see Paris for a couple days, when an airliner snafu left me stranded there. In the end, it was a lot of fun!

I have spent the majority of my travel time in France. I really have enjoyed every moment I got to spend there.
I think all of those old places must be horribly cold in winter!

It look a calm and peaceful place, nice to be in private mood and if I will be there, I will hund so many shadow photos.
