Join us for a quick visit to the Struisbaai harbor!
We were invited by a good Greek friend and his wife to come and spend two days here at the end of the African continent. Struisbaai is a small holiday village in the area, and soon after our arrival we popped in for a look at the local harbor. This is not a big commercial harbor, but we were amazed to see the local fishermen at work. Let's have a look!
Fisher boats lying at anchor in the harbor!
These guys were busy fixing their boat!
Some holiday makers also use their own modern boats!
Here we have the staff (birds) of one boat!
This guy decided to go and search for a wave!
Look how calm the sea water is in the bay!
And this is what the surfer was looking for!
I will also do an "Evening at the Harbor!" to show you some amazing sunlight colors on the boats and the sea. For now, I first wanted to show you what the harbor looks like during the early morning. It is a small harbor managed by friendly people.
There is also a nice long pier, but I will keep that for the second post to show you how the late sun breaks through the sides of the pier.
Much birdlife is about of course, but all of the fisher boats were out at sea on their daily tasks and the birds were waiting for them to come back.
We were told that the birds feast on the catches that the boats bring in, as the fish are cleaned at the shore and the scraps are thrown out for the birds.
We hope that you liked the photos and thank you for the visit to a post by @papilloncharity

Beautiful morning, lots of birds, probably hungry. I remember when I lived in Caribbean, early in the morning the water was warm and full of little fish, so many hungry birds were flying and feasting, it was impossible to swim (exercise) at that time! lol.
Must have been so great to have all of those birds around my friend.
We live close to the mountains, but the sea is also close by and I have a huge playground here.
I am sure that you have many fond memories.
Blessings!
Oh, I love how those soldiers lined all up on the boat. That was a brilliant capture! I lived almost dockside where the fishing boats came in, with the seagulls escorting them. Actually quite funny a sight.
But, you are right, they clean and gut the fish right at the docks, tables all set and ready for work. The seagulls are pretty smart and sit and wait, well sometimes... unless they helicoptered over them and waited for them to throw the scraps.
These were fun times to watch all the activity!
The waves never come when you need them . This looks like a fun time was had, Stephen! Wonderful shots as usual!
May God Bless you and yours always!

Thank you Lady Denise,
Your loving heart always reflect in your scribes.
We certainly had a great time at this little peaceful haven on earth and it was so great to see that the fishermen still practice ancient traditions.
Fascinating also to watch two guys with nets standing waist high in the water fishing for sand prawns.
I've had some kelp gulls taking food out of hand in flight.
We definitely need more of these adventures.
Blessings and thank you for the tip!

Pirates on deck waiting for handouts, what a performance they put up when the fishermen arrive and unloaded.
Surfer has some paddling to do to catch a ride back to the shore if his ideal wave does not come in.
Ha! I heard that the beach is 24 kilometres long at this section Lady Joan.
Poor guy might come out miles from home.
The thing that always amazes me is how nature can adapt to acts of mankind.
Even the very young gulls are taught by their elders how to scrounge from the fishermen.
Blessings!
Fishermen normally do throw excess to the birds, they learn very quickly!
wow beautiful boats. awesome photographs sir.
thanks for share with us..
Thank you and I took many shots of the harbor my friend.
Posted another one today!
Blessings!
I saw the evening in the harbor and now its nice to see it during the day, that one bost seems very popular with the birds
Thank you my friend.
Amazing how the birds would select one boat to populate.
Blessings.
It is cool seeing how birds do that they sure do have the group mentality for the most part
Howdy sir papilloncharity! Very interesting pictures there, the birds have it made don't they? They don't have to work for food. lol. Great job on the photos!
