Ordinary Fruits in Indonesia are Considered Strange Abroad

in #esteem7 years ago

With its thick pink skin, green scales, and unique shape, dragon fruit is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world.

The inside, white or purple, sprinkled with fine seeds like chia. It tastes a bit like a pear, rich in vitamin C and fiber.

The fruit is very easy to cut and eat, although it may look complicated.

Dragon fruit comes from cactus species from the clans of Hylocereus and Selenicereus. It originated from Mexico, Central America and South America, but is now also cultivated in Asian countries, such as Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. The fruit can also be found in Okinawa, Israel, Northern Australia, and Southern China.

In 1870 this plant brought the French from Guyana to Vietnam as an ornamental plant.

By Vietnamese and Chinese, dragon fruit is considered to be a blessing. Therefore, dragon fruit is always placed between two green dragon statues on the altar table.

The red color of the fruit looks striking between the colors of the green dragons. From the habit that the name dragon fruit originated.

Although westerners already know sweet potato (sweet potato), a purple type is still considered unusual, even strange.

"From the outside, their appearance usually looks like other sweet potatoes," as quoted from Oddee's website. However, after peeling, look inside the purple.

Sweet purple is rich in vitamins A and C. "Bake the tubers with a little oil, cinnamon and sugar, Sweet potatoes will be 'sweeter'."

As quoted from Wikipedia, sweet potato or sweet potato or sweet potato allegedly comes from the Americas.

Botanists and farmers estimate the origin of sweet potato crops are New Zealand, Polynesia, and central America.

Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov, a Soviet botanist, ensured that the primary centers of sweet potato origin were Central America.

Sweet potatoes began to spread throughout the world, especially tropical climates in the 16th century. The Spaniards spread sweet potatoes to the Asian region, especially the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

From its name, rambutan is a hairy fruit. "The fruit looks like a plant that looks like a spider or a furry insect," as quoted from the Oddee site.

However, when the skin is peeled, the center of the fruit is soft, like a wine but white, with a large seed in it.

"This fruit looks weird, there's no doubt about it ... but it tastes sweet and delicious."

From its history, rambutan comes from areas in Southeast Asia. However, the fruit is also widely found in tropical regions such as Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, India and Sri Lanka.

It is a true phenomenon. Some fruits or indeed foods can be considered ordinary and acceptable in some societies, but the same fruits/food can be seen suspiciously and disregarded in some other societies.
