Among all archaeological sites excavated at Comilla's Mainamati, Salban Vihara is one of the main. The location of this monastery in the middle of Lalmai hills near Bird in Kotbari. Around this time, there was a dense forest of Shal-Gazari, because it was named as Shalvan Vihara. [Citation needed] Its adjacent village is named Shalvanpur. There is still a small forest there. This monastery is like the Paharpur Buddhist monastery but it is small in size.

In the eighth century AD, the central temple was built in the third phase and it is assumed that the overall renovation of the monastery was made.
