Volvo Bus and Famco Al Futtaim Auto & Machinery Co. (Famco) ensure Volvo B11R will be the first Euro 6 standard bus to operate in the Middle East, after Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) ordered 143 intercity bus racers.
Orders for 143 Volvo luxury intercity buses are not just FAMCO's biggest deal with RTA to date, but also the largest intercity bus purchases by transportation authorities in the region.
"This is also the first time that Euro 6 buses will operate commercially in the Middle East," said Volvo Bus in a press release on Friday (4/8/2018).
The Volvo B11R Euro 6 chassis will have the Sunsundegui SC5 body. Intercity buses will be equipped with future ITS systems for fleet tracking, premium interiors, lighter ISRI ergonomic light chairs, and convenience accessories required by modern commuters such as USB charging capabilities, footrests, cup holders and luxurious wood flooring.
The buses will be equipped with Volvo Driver Support System as a leading-edge security system for all road users. This system includes both the front-crash warning and emergency braking functions, which this technology automatically applies the full brake to the bus if the collision with the vehicle in front is near and the driver does not react to the initial warning.
This technology includes Adaptive Cruise Control which automatically creates the distance set to the vehicle in front and Lane Keeping Support System, which warns the driver if the bus will cross the track pananda accidentally.
Volvo B11R is the first bus in the Middle East to meet Euro 6's stringent standards on fuel efficiency and emissions; assisted in the successful signing of the agreement evaluated against the 10-year RTA ownership cost requirement, including fuel and operational costs.
Volvo with Euro 6 engine capacity of 11-liter 430hp complies with the most stringent emission level requirements for diesel engines worldwide, bringing local particulate (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollutants to a very low level - 0.01 g / kWh for PM and 0.4 g / kWh for NOx.
The Volvo engine also delivers unparalleled power and performance. Combined with smart fuel-efficient service packages like the Volvo I-Shift gearbox, advanced engine management system and I-Coaching; real-time devices that provide driver support at work for drivers with instant feedback on acceleration, braking, bend and over-revving, this ensures safer and more fuel-efficient travel.
Akash Passey, Senior Vice President for Volvo Buses International, commented that Volvo became the first bus manufacturer to introduce the Euro 6 standard to the Middle East as the most fuel-efficient, cost-effective and environmentally conscious public transportation solution, helping RTA to continue to lead the way in safety and sustainability.
"These buses mark the start of a new type of modern bus that focuses on delivering clean, safe and efficient public transport," he said.
Volvo's intercity buses will operate not only in Dubai, but throughout the UAE, bring people closer and unite the community. "We are proud to be part of RTA's goal to increase people's mobility through public transport by 30% by 2030," said Nigel Johnson, Senior Managing Director, FAMCO UAE.
