The total cost of the Bangabandhu satellite project was estimated at Tk 2,968 crore. On 4th May, Bangabandhu Satellite will be launched from USA's private space exploration and technology company Falcon-9 rocket of SpaceX from the launch pad of Cape Pagsverail in Florida.
Bangabandhu satellite will have 40 transponders, 20 of which will be used for the use of Bangladesh and the rest will be able to earn foreign currency, said Bangabandhu Satellite Project Director Md. Mejbahuzzaman.
In this context, Mostafa Jabbar said, "We can use half of 40 transponders. In the other half we can rent foreigners or anyone else. It will be a couple of years.
"Then it can be seen, this satellite is not getting the demand. Moreover, normal life expectancy of the satellite is 15 years. From the technical side, we do not fall back, so that's why Bangabandhu satelite 2 is heading out. "
Ground Station of Bangabandhu Satellite has been set up in Joydebpur of Gazipur and Betubuniya of Rangamati.
The minister said that 18 youths have already been trained for the work there. They said, "They are now ready to take control of Bangabandhu."
He said the United States will launch the Bangabandhu satellite between 2pm and 5 am on time. But due to the weather, this time may be 'off-peak'.
Earlier, on December 16, Bangabandhu was supposed to launch a satellite, but Hurricane Arma suffered extensive damage in Florida due to the loss of the launch.
Mustafa Jabber said that after the launch of Bangabandhu satellite, a national festival will be organized in Dhaka on May 8, so that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the chief guest.
Bangabandhu Satellite has been built in France's Talas Elinya Space Facility. After the construction, examination, review and transfer, it is sent on the special cargo plane by the launch of the Cape Purchase Vehicle. In the meantime, the satellite has started launching the 'launch campaign'.
The government hopes that after the launch of this satellite, the foreign satellite rental will save 14 million dollars annually in Bangladesh.
