The paper on poultry in the Highlands of Aceh
Sempidan Aceh ( Lophura hoogerwerfi ), including the Phasianidae tribe who live on the ground. Nested on the ground, but sleeping on a tree. Short wings are rounded, tail is generally long. Males are usually very beautiful, while dull-colored females (to disguise). Some types have a loud, clean sound. Many types use the wings to make a buzzing sound or show a swaying motion. Most males have spurs on the feet. Fly only for short distance, but can run well.
Her body measuring between 40-50 cm, dark color. Can only be found in northern Sumatra. Only known from two female specimens taken from the Gayo highlands. A group of birds was also seen in the Mamas Valley, Gunung Leuser National Park, in 1979. The female specimens were taken from the lower mountain rainforest bordering Lake Meluwak at an altitude of 1200-1400 m. In general the area is a hilly area covered by dense forest with a little bushes. While other specimens were taken at an altitude of 600 m. A group of feeding birds is seen in the Mamas Valley, on the relatively dry mountain floor of the forest at an altitude of 1,200-2,000 m.
In 1998-1999 a total of 10 tails (5 males and 5 females respectively) Sempidan Aceh was secured from the bird market in Medan, and it was reported that all birds were taken from the Gunung Leuser National Park area. There is no current estimate, but the forests that continue to grow will have an impact on their lives. Allegedly a child of Sempidan Sumatera L. inornata species . Taxonomic status is uncertain.
The threat to this bird is its shrinking and fragmented forests due to the expansion of agricultural land, large-scale timber extraction and also the risk of forest fires. Hunting is also considered a threat, with the discovery of some traded birds. His status is now Vulnerable. ( Puslitbang Biologi-LIPI )
