Diamonds are one of the jewelry that women love. However, many of us are less knowledgeable about diamonds. The only thing looks fancy and wah. In fact, you also have to know the diamond is genuine or fake.
Want to know how to check? Here's an easy way you can apply directly at home to distinguish whether your diamond is genuine or fake!
Try to observe your diamonds by using loupe
Loupe is a kind of magnifying glass easily available in the market. Using this tool, try observing the edge of the diamond. Usually an original diamond has a sharp edge while a fake diamond has a rounded edge.
The original diamond will not be scratched even if rubbed with sandpaper.
Most fake diamonds consist of cubic zirconias. This is what causes fake diamonds to be scratched if rubbed with crude sandpaper.
Perform Fog Test on diamonds.
Fog Test or test the dew test can be done by placing a diamond in front of the mouth and then exhale in the direction of the diamond as it is through the mirror. Unlike the fake diamonds that will produce dew and stay afloat for a few seconds, the good thermal conductivity of the original diamond will make the dew disappear very quickly
Look at the shadow of your diamond.
Original diamond shadows have white and gray reflections. If you look straight from the top of a diamond, you can determine what color the diamond reflects. If you see the reflection of a rainbow color, it means that the diamond is most likely low-quality or even fake.
Put the diamond on your book, see if the writing underneath is visible or not.
The structure of the original diamond will completely block the incoming light so you will not be able to see any writing that is being covered by the original diamond. Conversely, if you can still read the writing, most likely diamonds are fake.
Well now know how to distinguish the original or fake diamond? But if you find your fake diamond features, do not jump right away! It's a good idea to check further through the laboratory or the experts.
