Part X
Boris explained that after Matthew's meeting with the king, his majesty summoned all the lords and nobles of the kingdom. Once gathered, the king ordered the arrest of several high ranking nobles, to the surprise of the other lords and nobles. To justify his action, the king brought the captured nobleman and then had a potioneer use the same potion that they used inside the forest of gloom to force a confession. Not only that, the king also present the evidence and documents he had been gathering secretly over years.
But despite the overwhelming evidence, the nobles involved still refuses to give up, and declared a rebellion, citing that they wanted to overthrow a tyrant king. Unfortunately for them, the king is prepared, and forcing the rebellious nobles to retreat to their last stronghold.
"Such a big rebellion, why didn't I hear a news of it?" Matthew asked, confused.
"The rebellion happened so fast and the king's action as swift. Also, the king forbids the spread of the news," Boris explained.
"Even us from the guild only heard of it recently," Aria added, wryly.
"His majesty is that powerful?" Amy asked, dumbfounded.
"I think most of the citizens and the nobles, thought of his majesty as a good-natured king," answered Boris. "We forgot the fact that not just anyone can be king."
"His majesty sure hides his fangs deeply," Matthew said, amazed.
The others can only nod as well. With such an able and decisive ruler, it won't be easy for even the black dragon to conquer the kingdom of Adel.
"Though, the main forces of the traitorous rebels are being cornered inside their stronghold, they are still nobles and has connections. So they might hire assassins to get rid of you," Aria said , grimly.
"I see. Since that nobleman was captured, those behind him figured that we manages to escape alive, and thus wanted to kill me in revenge." Murmured Matthew.
Seeing Matthew being quiet, Aria thought that he was silenced by fear, therefore she tried to assure him.
"Aside from us, the king also assigned several of his most skillful knights to protect you, so you don't have to worry too much." She said.
"Eh? I see. No wonder I felt like I'm being observe this past days." Matthew exclaimed.
"Did you hear that guys? You're cover was blown!" Boris teased the hiding knights.
"Cough! Please don't mind us sir Matthew! Just pretend that we didn't exist!" Said a knight in hiding.
Matthew and his group could only give a bitter smile, after hearing the knight's answer. And as per their request, proceeds to ignore them.
Meanwhile...
"How is it?" Asked the king.
"Still the same answer, your majesty. The rebels refuses to surrender, despite the offer." A general answered.
"Foolish! Do they really think that they have a chance to overturn the situation?" Another general cursed in anger.
"...give them a day. If they still refuses to surrender... then show no mercy!" The king ordered.
