Pairing gaming with crypto seems to be some sort of Nirvana in the current fintech world and, if we judge by the viral effects of CryptoKitties, it's a very profitable Nirvana.
A fintech startup called Experimental, which, in their ICO, only allowed 300 contributors to join, is working on a game called CryptoWars, which, as far as I understand, will be the first strategy game to run entirely on Ethereum smart contracts.
In an update posted on the Experimental blog, the team announced today that the game will be launched this month. The MVP of the game will be available only to the initial group of founders. It's an interesting update, considering that in the initial plan, the first project of the company should have stretched to about a year. They seem to hurry and in this case, hurrying might be a good thing.
But even more interesting in the aforementioned blog post is the announcement about a new team member: Tiburcio de la Carcova. Chances to have heard about him are relatively small, but chances to have heard about the company at which he works are very high: he is the product and growth manager of XAPO. Yes, that XAPO. The fact that somebody from a prominent debit card linked to crypto is joining a crypto gaming startup is relevant, in my opinion.
I think we might hear about these guys and their CryptoWars game very, very soon.
Disclaimer: I am one of the first 300 initial contributors to Experimental and I hold some e11 tokens.

Dang!
Well, I guess by the time it is open up for everyone else, I'll be bored of playing my non-crypto games.
It may open up for everyone else sooner than you think. I'm also super curious to see the final version. The neat thing is that you play with real ETH. No in-game currency like Linded dollars.
The Beta release for Backers is in June and everyone else in October, according to the Roadmap. I guess that will give me time to build up some ETH before it starts.
The MVP is released sooner, so it may be out sooner than June, that's what Im saying (even in the post). My hunch is that it will be out way sooner than the roadmap.
It sounds like the MVP is the same as an Alpha version. Since it isn't on the RoadMap, I am going to guess that they are still on schedule for a June Beta release.
Wait? It's a mobile game? No, no, no... They need to get it on Steam.
I don't think it's mobile, at least the screenshot doesn't look like it is.
Here you go, look familiar.

They are working with Etermax games, which looks like only makes mobile games. They only have 1 PC game.

From the FAQ. Not that the answer actually answers the question.
Why is the first experiment a mobile game?
A game is a clear demonstration of how the blockchain could be applied to all industries and not only to finance. Our team has the right skills to build a high-quality game. It gets the attention of the audience and helps with awareness for Experimental.
Honestly, going mobile will make it go viral.
Wow! lucky you!
looks very interesting and addictive as well
That is awesome! Two things I like: strategy games and crypto. Bring them on!
This is a category I think any crypto investor (time or money) should have an eye on - crypto gaming. Like you pointed out with the Cryptokitties phenomenon, it's clear that there is a large market for that just waiting for a viable crypto+game marriage.
I'm imaging a digital card game - Hearthstone, etc - that let you grind to earn tokens, rather than arbitrary card dust... as just one tiny example.
TRON is the big elephant in the room here. Anyway thanks for the notice on this, interesting to hear about.
look great, thx for shared
This is the kind of stuff I love with Crypto. I briefly looked into Cryptokitties but just didn’t decide to continue with it. I’ll for sure want to check this out to see how earnings are handled. Seems like a lot of projects like this are handled on Ethereum smart contracts.
I want to see video games on the blockchain with full digital currencies.
Can't wait to launch this awesome Game CryptoWars game. Also I appreciate your research work on the subject. Mind blowing efforts dear @dragosroua. Keep it up!
We got our own war here on steemit, now poker league posts get flagged...
ICO and XAPO being involved in the project is a big NO for me right away
Great information and talking in crypto-news.
We will be keeping an eye on CryptoWars
CryptoWars games are fabulous @dragosroua
I want to see video games on the... blockchain with digital currencies....thanks for sharing this post with us
Amazing. In tech industry, game market is a significant part which cannot be overlooked.

Not exactly what's going on, but I pretty much called this 6 months ago lol. It's only a matter of time before MMO's and other such games want to make money on gold farming/selling.
Keep us updated. Very interested in these projects.
https://www.coinbrawl.com/ was fun until it was taken over either by bots or by people with way too much free time on there hands.
