The HBO series "Silicon Valley" seems to be about a global "Decentralized Network".
They don't call it Ethereum, but they are referring to it.
Richard came up with this great promising idea of combining the computing power of devices around the globe.
a "new decentralized version of the web".
Is he inspired by something ?
This hardly reminds on the Ethereum network.
Phase IV : "Ethereum - hype compute" ?!
What is Ethereum?
Ethereum is a decentralized world computer that enables peer-to-peer transactions and the execution of smart contracts. It allows people to frictionlessly exchange and communicate, with no intermediaries. In other words, Ethereum is the next generation of the Internet.

Proof of Stake Panel Discussion - Silicon Valley - Ethereum Meetup

These are some of the Core Developers working on Proof of Stake Algorithms in principal and especially for the Ethereum Network.
In this Interview they are discussing the conditions of proof of stake mechanisms for ethereum, called Casper, which is part of the "Serenity" Hard Fork Upgrade.
Proof of Stake
Proof-of-stake (PoS) is a type of algorithm by which a cryptocurrency blockchain network aims to achieve distributed consensus. Unlike Proof-of-Work, where the algorithm rewards participants who solve complicated cryptographical puzzles in order to validate transactions and create new blocks (i.e. mining), in PoS-based cryptocurrencies the creator of the next block is chosen in a deterministic (pseudo-random) way, and the chance that an account is chosen depends on its wealth (i.e. the stake). In PoS cryptocurrencies the blocks are usually said to be forged (in the blacksmith sense of this word), or minted, rather than mined. Also, usually all the coins are created in the beginning and the total number of coins never changes afterwards (although there are some other versions of PoS where new coins can be created). Therefore, in the basic version of PoS there are no block rewards (e.g. as in bitcoin); so, the forgers take only the transaction fees.

These similarities are obvious, and can be understood as publicity.
(for both, Ethereum and the HBO series Silicon Valley)
Is the 4th season of the "Silicon Valley" series about ("something like") Ethereum ?!
Hi - let me invite you to ethereum 2020 community based price estimation

Good article on Ethereum. I'm new to cryptocurrencies and was wondering what exactly Ethereum was and this article gave some great insight into it. I'm going to be watching Silicon Valley now.
i am not sure if this series really is about ethereum ! so i don't know if it is worth for you to watch this.
I guess they are inspired by many different inventions and developements.
But it is remarkable how they are highlighting a similar idea like Ethereum.
In reality most people won't notice this in the series and will have no idea what this was about, like they are maybe using ethereum one day without knowing it.
Whether it is or is not about Ethereum, I usually like these kind of shows as long as the story lines are decent and the acting doesn't suck. It kind of reminds me of the movie "Gold" where the movie is about gold mining but if you pay attention you can catch a lot of the risks associated with investing in individual mining stocks.
Nice informative post.
I have watched this show since it first started airing and only now that I am beginning to educate myself on crypto currencies I can definitely see this connection.
