I recently saw a video about esports, may be a couple of weeks ago. Before that i didn't know it had such a big audience.
- I think its already quite big, 150 odd million enthusiasts and similar number of occassional viewers (source: statista). It is projected to become as big as golf. I think esports will continue to be behind actual sports though.
- Esports betting is clearly an untapped market, given how big esports is and how big it is projected to get. The growth of betting may be really fast as esports becomes more and more professional. Mainstream needs to adopt it and most likely they will. Its too big an audience to ignore.
- Not sure how much a game benefits because of betting. I think its the other way around. Betting companies benefit if a game sees an increase in its audience. So i don't think Asura will benefit the game significantly. It may benefit people who place bets, not just on esports but also other games. The potential for blockchain in the betting and gaming industry is huge.
eSports and golf--that's a very interesting comparison. And you are right, Asura can ride the popularity wave of eSports betting. Aligning with a growing market that is getting increased attention is always a good strategy.
Yeah, i wanted to compare it to sports where stamina isn't key, may be golf of chess.
Ah ok, that makes sense
