As most people on Steemit, I absolutely love crypto currencies and getting rewarded for creating high quality content that people enjoy. As well as that, I'm also a big fan of traveling.
Unfortunately, I haven't come across a lot of ICOs targeting the travel space with viable business models and growth channels in the past... until today.
Meet Explorio, the world's first decentralized travel reviews platform.

Take TripAdvisor for example. Even though they are the biggest company for online travel reviews by far (made over $1.4 billion in revenues in 2016), its platform is filled with fake reviews, they have been alleged to delete people’s content for commercial reasons and their millions of users do not get rewarded for spending tons of hours contributing content.
The team at Explorio wants to change that by building a completely decentralized platform that rewards our authors with tokens and thus empowers them to travel the world by simply contributing high quality content on our platform (same like we have thousands of bloggers getting rewarded a great amount on Steemit).
The project was founded by Jacob Laukaitis, who has been traveling the world for the past 4.5 years while running various online companies (one of which has just been acquired in a seven-figures deal) and growing his YouTube travel channel to over 210,000 subscribers.
They are also supported by almost a dozen of prominent travel influencers, like Alexey Lyakh (1.1M followers on Instagram), Jackson Groves (246k followers on Instagram), Kara & Nate (190k subscribers on YouTube) and many others, including the most popular traveler on Steemit - Tim Said (17k followers on Steemit).
Not only that, they have a really strong people, who have spent years working at companies like TripAdvisor, Booking, Expedia, Google, Uber, Zapier and many others. I like the point that you are an advocate of crypto,I suggest you can make something like a special blog on steemit or website, you will help a lot of people by answering some qustions about cryptos. People need something like that,I thought it would be useful and cool!

Well I don't travel a lot but this looks quite intriguing would be definition of travel and earn crypto :D
If this will realize then the crypto world will have a huge leap and will skyrocket again since travel is a huge industry and this will attract millions of new crypto investors and traders. Its a win-win situation for all of us cryptonians :)

This is a great concept. I’ve been contributing to trip advisor for years as I’ve travelled quite a bit but getting rewarded for it would be awesome. Will they allow you to copy over old reviews?
Is this going to be built on the STEEM blockchain? If so then by virtue of holding Steem tokens, some of the value of Explorio will accrue to Steem. Am I thinking about it correctly?
Can I just confirm a few things. The white paper talks about timeframes in months but gives no indication when the timeline starts or if it has started? Are you saying we are 2 years away from full launch?
Also, you are looking to raise 25k ethereum, so approx $19m is that correct?

This is actually great news, @kingscrown! I've been contributing to TripAdvisor every time I go for a vacation. From hotels to activities, I always make time to provide reviews and firsthand experiences which can be helpful for the TripAdvisor community. However, I only get votes, but beyond that, nothing. I never knew there could be a better way besides that, until I knew about this Explorio.

This appears to be a very suitable pair - taking advantage of the blockchain's immutability to address the deletions of posts.
Steemit's slow account creation process does mitigate the fake, spam posts issue as well so I hope this review platform implements something similar.

While investors try to guess the rise and fall of bitcoin, we believe the underlying blockchain technology is far more important and will be more impactful worldwide, across all industries, than cryptocurrency alone.

At last people who work really hard for quality content will get rewarded. The reward problem of people working really hard is not only at travelers, many sectors and people suffer from it. This makes me happy to see at least one group will get what they deserve. Great job.
That is so interesting. Travellers can simpl start traveling and take out their expenses by sharing their experiences. Have you heard about the Xcel trip tokens? You don't get paid to share anything but it is also a decentralized platform for travelers.

This is a great project and honestly it's high time the industry experience a little disruption. Currently one of the issues I have with the older resources available to travelers is a lack of updated information as well as the blatant bias some reviews seem to express. I like that the value and accuracy of the content will first be reviewed by the community and look forward to see how much of a difference this project will bring.

The project is very difficult to implement, there are a lot of open questions in white paper. In my opinion, serious investments in this project are unacceptable. The same Tokengo looks much more attractive, where it is more and more simple and transparent with a good prospect of development.
another interesting project
This looks like a very interesting project, but one important thing to consider:
With websites like Trip Advisor and such, it's somewhat easy to spot the fake reviews. Also, because no one gets financially rewarded, people trust the opinions expressed.
But what happens when you're rewarded for your travel reviews? Your ranking goes higher and your posts become more visible, and soon enough the homepage (like steemit) is threatened by being overwhelmed with "top" posts that are controlled by a very small % of the community. What then stops businesses (hotels, restaurants, etc) from paying these authors to make positive reviews about them? They could do that and the reader would never know...Like, the monetization of the review automatically gives it less credibility...
Not to say that this potential problem doesn't have a solution; of course there are many ways to prevent this, and it seems like the team is at least somewhat aware of this and taking some steps to prevent this from happening.

I guess thats the thing that travelers need. Its kinda impossible to find accurate information in apps like tripadvisor and etc.

That is an amazing idea. I think the biggest challenge is to make the tokens valuable in terms of using the to travel. It would require to make the token usable for hotels, airlines, restaurants etc. The only hint I found in the white paper is that Explorio will have a kind of an affiliate system. Is there more information available on how these tokens could be used for traveling?
