Not specifically HiveOS, but Linux can achieve higher overclock (in my experience). HiveOS has a convenient dashboard so I can check my hashes when I'm away. It also monitors temps, power usage, etc.
I've mined on Ubuntu before but I'd have to manually start mining and I couldn't really monitor much. HiveOS is automatic and graphs hashrate.
