Big day today. Gave a presentation to a group of music teachers on the topic of Musical Performance Anxiety (the topic of my dissertation), and on the way to my next engagement, stopped at a grocery store for a quick lunch of Sushi, Green Tea, and a Snicker*.
My guess: 10 mE
Actual:11 mE
Also needed gas. A 3/4 tank
My guess 25mE
Actual: 22.6mE
Looks like fueling my car for a week only costs twice as much as fueling me for the afternoon.
*Snickers has not sponsored this post, but if they would like to...
I want to hear about your dissertation!
Thanks for the interest. The topic of my dissertation was Musical Performance Anxiety in Virtual Performance Contexts. I wanted to know if performances recorded with the intent to podcast generated the elevated levels of arousal similar to live performance contexts. The short answer was no, but the more interesting results indicated that a significant factor of overall anxiety was not just about the performance context, but about the feelings about the level of preparation. The podcasted performances were effective in reducing the preparation component of anxiety because participants who weren't prepared identified their deficiencies and remediated them, and the participants who were prepared developed confidence in their preparation.
