European shares rose on Friday to offset some of yesterday's losses. The gains led the telecoms sector as Vodafone rose after the company posted more than expected earnings, and gains remain limited as the shares of exporters affected by the rise of the single European currency fell to a two-year high against U.S. dollar.
The Dow Jones Stoxx Europe 600 rose 0.2 percent by 09:25 GMT, the index ended yesterday's session down 0.4 percent, after the rise of the euro after comments by Mario Draghi, European Central Bank governor.
The telecom sector rose more than 1 percent to top the Stokes Europe index, with Vodafone up 2.3 percent after the telecoms giant reported better-than-estimated earnings in the first quarter, helped by growth in Italy and Spain.
The euro continued to rise for the second day in a row against the US dollar, hitting a two-year high of $ 1.1677, which weighed heavily on exporters, especially automakers.
Mario Draghi said that no date had yet been set for discussing any changes in the monetary stimulus program, but noted that the bank's monetary policy industrialist would reconsider the issue in the fall.
S & P 500 futures rose by more than 0.1 percent, and the index ended yesterday's session on Wall Street stable without any change, after recording earlier trading at an all-time high of 2,477.62 points.
For Europe's most important indexes, the Euro Stoch 50 index rose by 0.2 percent. In Germany, the DAX rose 0.1 percent. In France, the CAC 40 index added 0.1 percent. In London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.3 percent.
