How do these deer even live?

in #exhaust3 years ago

Hi everyone!

Nike NRC has been playing up for me again. It doesn't recognise me nor does it let me log out. I'll give it a day or two to work itself out otherwise I'm going to have to delete the app from my phone and reinstall it.

I did run 4.43kms today in 32:19 with a 135m elevation and burnt 307 calories. It was about 8C at the time. It was a lovely wet but sunny day, and you can definitely feel the spring in the air.

See the deer in here?
This is a local council property that has really solid barb-wire fencing and no holes under the fences that I can see. I've seen deer in here a couple of times... I assume they wandered in while someone left the gate open.

The thing is... because the gates are so solid, the deer can live without predators... and have all the grass they could ever want... but the thing I'm curious about is their water. I'm sure during winter there has been puddles and wet grass... but in summer it doesn't rain for 4 months straight. I hope there is water in this compound thing for them... but I kinda don't see why there would be.

It's such a mystery.

Sorry, this is such a zoomed in pic from my phone... but I think this little deer might have been born in the last couple of days. It was so little, and had another little friend and it's Mum was lying down nearly.

I've seen so many deer the past week, it's be super great.

I mentioned in my March Financey post that I didn't think the Crypto EO was going to be a big deal, and for the first time ever, it turns out I was right:

I'm definitely happy with this "let's research and align with our allies" approach to ensure the US isn't left behind in innovation. Apart from the SEC's ridiculous lawsuit against Ripple and LBRY I think the US has generally been pretty sensible with crypto, even taxes don't seem too arduous just at the minute.

I've been playing with the #POSH token today and I honestly think the whole process is really great. Instead of bragging about your own posts, you earn tokens by sharing other people's posts on Twitter... for the chance of you getting tokens and them potentially bigger upvotes. I think it will encourage more quality content on Hive, but also the sharing of that quality content with the Twitterverse.

I still don't think Hive posts are ranking particularly highly in Google, but the more Twitter is involved with sharing and spreading the world the better for the network as a whole.

I hope everyone is well!

Dew in the mornings, maybe?

Ah, that's a good point. I hadn't thought of that. I think the summer gets pretty dry but I'll have to keep an eye out for those deer-saving dews...

As a hunter, I can confirm that Deer do lick the dew off of grass in the morning.

Ahhhh, maybe that's the mystery solved then. Thanks GeekNerd69420.

That's Mr.GeekNerd69420, to you! 😂

Is the whole thing fenced that high and can you see all the way in? Maybe there's a pond somewhere you can't see? Or if you can't walk around the whole thing maybe there's a gap in the fence or it's a bit lower somewhere and they're just jumping in and out? :D

Hope the app sorts itself out and stops being a pain.

I haven't walked around the whole parameter yet... but there was a hole under one of the fences and the council was pretty quick to close that up so I'm kind of assuming they've been strict about the entire fence line.

I'll have to go for a walk around it. I'm so curious!
