Over the past weeks there has been a qualification for a survival challenge.
I know it is called Colonization Challenge but it is really a case of, will your crew survive?
One big game update which has happened since the last recap is "Factions". Your collection of Exode cards generates a level of faction for each faction which a card belongs. Starter packs give an origin card with a particular faction and most of the crew cards are also of that Origin faction. When you enter your colonization pass area, there is a "Factions Tab". There is a nice listing of your cards and the faction power they generate for you if you chose to be of that faction.
Every few days a new article is release reveling more details about the game structure and player activities. The latest one was about making your own chemical solutions designs. This is not like the others, what do you mean "make your own" designs?

As detailed in the article above, what you manage to create may not exist anywhere else. The fact that the output is one of a kind makes one wonder how it will all fit together. There is no end blueprint or schematic to start from, just some basic rules. The fact that the skills of your crew affect the outcome is not something you can "for sure" put into a crew as the crew are generated from the base card. So right from the beginning of the Exode experience, the output is not know.
This concept of making something but not knowing what the output will be, is not normal in the gaming world. All games I have seen have a pre-set structure of material, items and goods that will produce a known output.
At the time of this writing, there are a few more publications which were scheduled to be delivered during the coming week. Once the publications are released I would expect that the challenge continues. While the publications are being produced, there has been not further offerings in the challenge sequence. Landing has been the last enabled option.
It is my guess that the publications are needed so that when the content is released, at lease a few players will know enough to test out the new functionality.
Of course this is all just my opinion of what is going on and why, I really do not know more than any other player.

I was feeling very much the same after reading the last articles. I have been thinking about writing another article about Exode but feel now that there is so much new information coming out, so maybe better to wait until the picture is clearer before doing further analysis. I am also curious to see how this open ended invention/production system will come together!
