My present-day disclaimer: the following is a snapshot of my opinions two and a half years ago. I have not changed my insistence that the Church start addressing the increasing disclosure of phenomena it can't fit neatly into its traditional worldview. I am somewhat bewildered at the prospect of getting the masses of Church folk to engage what is being uncovered, but then I remember: I got here somehow, and so can they.

Those of us who know Christ, who have the Holy Spirit, and are scientifically curious and seek all truth are uniquely positioned to interpret the current signs and wonders and disturbing events that are occurring in our world as we speak. UFOs, USOs, Crop circles, end-time prophecy both within the church and outside it, abductions, inter-entity contact, channeled “messages” from self-identified aliens, massive holes in the ground, government cover-ups, cattle mutilations, the link between practicing non-Christian meditation and subsequent alien contact, the links between the occult, New Age philosophy, the Masons, and the “sun/star gods” of ancient cultures, among other potentially faith-jarring topics, can not be ignored, demonized, or ridiculed as hoaxes and fantasy by the church any longer. Masses of people without any context for these happenings will either completely reject what the Bible, current Christian prophetic voices, and the Holy Spirit say or else devour what they say, starved for an anchor of hope and security in the midst of deeply disturbing shaking of their foundations of reality.

Unless, that is, we the church fail to address the questions head-on, in which case the strongest voices on these issues will be heard, which currently are the naturalists, the New Age adherents, and the secular humanists.
Please understand that by “addressing the questions” I do not mean we will give pat answers, even made-up answers as some Christian groups are susceptible to tout out of the desperate need for maintaining control over their identity as Answer Experts. Some questions are beyond our capacity to understand or explain, and the church needs to admit ignorance. I am heartened by the recent admittance by the Vatican of the possibility of extraterrestrial life. I wonder how long it will take for Protestant denominations to “come out” on this topic. The global conversation surrounding ET presence is gaining momentum and I for one want to add my voice, small as it may be.
