Ned has made a first post about the Blockchain Roadmap and Cost reduction here.
He will also be doing a new live stream on Thursday here
@blocktrades has put forward a proposal to work on reducing the costs of the witness notes. You can read about it here. It's a no cure no pay solution for $250k.
I talk about it more in my vlog.
Witnesses I mention in my vlog:

Thanks for getting back to these highly informative vlogs. Much needed and appreciated by me and many more.
Do I sense a blessing in disguise scenario? More than that I'm convinced of it especially after reading blocktrades post and proposal.
The blocktrades team is perfect for this. They know Graphene inside and out and are awesome at what they do. On top of that their customer service is top notch.
Question: could part of the cost be offset by the community using its stake to upvote brief daily progress reports?
The cuts were deep and unexpected, but I don't see any reason to believe we were at the edge of disaster.
Imagine if Ned laid off 10% of the staff each month, for 7 months. That would be far more troubling.
He saw an issue ahead, maybe a distant one, and took decisive action. It may have been at the last possible second, or it may have been an overcautious overreaction, we can't know.
Often shareholders are glad to see deep staffing cuts as a cost saving measure, so I'm not surprised to see the powerdown stats are looking good.
Decentralisation is the winner here. As you suggested, long term this may well be looked back on fondly, as a real turning point.
Full marks to the community, particularly the technically minded guys who've gone above and beyond in sourcing ways to build redundancy into the ecosystem.
I don't think we'll need them, but that's the whole point in having a backup plan.
This downtrend has exposed some deep 'hidden' flaws in the system that are now coming out. They are fixable I agree. There is enough time. At the end of all this we will be more decentralised indeed.
The community has been amazing, a true asset this blockchain has and I hope will be utilised more from now on. And on a personal level, I am learning a lot of new life lessons.
I know that there are some projects out there that take a certain percentage of your rewards. I don't really mind those because usually they offer something additional in return that makes up for what you are losing to them. Call it a value added benefit. I wouldn't be opposed to Steemit implementing something like that. For example Tasteem.io gives you the choice to support them whenever you post something through them. I always choose to support them because I like what they are doing and I believe in them. I think people would do the same for Steemit if they implemented something like that. I am not totally opposed to advertising, but I feel like the potential for revenue would be huge and I would want to be ensured as a content creator I get a portion of that.
A system were the content creators that generate the most 'eyes' get rewarded the most from advertisements on Steemit.com could be awesome. If this also flows to upvoters of that content it would be an incentive to upvote popular content that will be viewed the most.
If such a system was in place then popular content creators could come over taking the 'eyes' with them and get nicely rewarded.
I am not sure if this can be done. I'm going to think about it. (probably someone already has).
Thanks @exyle, I like your reflections so far and I feel you're a very reasonable voice that's both critical and calming in these times :-) Keep up the good work! I've mainly been observing that everyone said, wrote, did the past few days, but I'll be writing up some stuff as well later tonight. I think there might be a lot of overlap with what you shared in the video.
Thank you! I have changed a bit I must admit. Looking forward reading your thoughts about the whole situation.
Hope give motivation toward action and with need that in the current state. One suggestion, you could easily make your vlog in less than 5 minutes with the message you have to share. :)

Probably, but I record my thoughts in one go. I don't edit. I share my ideas and feelings as I feel em. Haha, it has been said by others I use it as therapy, lol! Sometimes it's 7 minutes sometimes more. I do try to keep it under 15 min max. Today I failed but lots is going on.
Inteteresting point that steemit is a 'fetter' on every other blogging UI.
Ads don't need to be too 'in your face' - WordPress.com strikes a nice balance for example.
Thanks for all your efforts. In the grand scheme of things £250K sounds very reasonable!
I've often wondered why there's no restriction on picture size - surely that's got to put massive strain on storage resources? And an easy way to reduce costs and improve functionality would be to force image optimisation?

I'm not sure how much the costs are of the storage resources. For me, I'm also wondering if this is even a task of Steem inc. to provide such a thing (at a loss). They are a blockchain company not an image hosting company.
Still thinking about this one.
It sounds to me that they've already decided it isn't their job to host data, so maybe it's a moot point for them! !
Paid ads is one thing that I felt will somehow found a way to get into Steem whether now or later. Already most promoted posts are forms of ads because the promoter needs more visibility. I think Steemit Inc should give a serious thought to it.
I think it should be explored as well.
In the video you was mention that nobody has yet decided to leave....
If I honest say and think what I see...., then who's thinking and doing it right now to leave, .... then where are you going? :)) steemit works like strong stone .... The problem is the rest of the market, which determines our value.
if our value is small, then it is also the rest all market value small, and you will not get much more with other coins also.
Prices are like a balls that is pushed down to a depth of 20 meters water... we have to give it some time, that rise which next comes .... it come very unexpectedly.
This christmas I take out just 80 euros ... this is all what I can ... but what more we hold and HODL it makes as more strong and and get more experience how to deal with hard times.
And I am Sorry ... My English week.
Your English is fine and I have thought about what you said as well. I also don't want to be anywhere then here.
Thanx :)
How many active Steemians are out there? That $250K is easily paid for if everyone pitches in. Got my $20 ready if we go that route. Greetings!
@onnovocks, some statistics says we have 100 K active users, others say 25-30 K active users.
So if half are willing to contribute $20 (12,500 users) we'd have the needed $250K. Thanks for the info; I think the latter, 25-30K would be the safer figure to use as many whales and witnesses run multiple accounts. Spasibo.
@onnovocks, I am ready to contribute my $20.

Thank you so much for participating the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!
ned needs to leave his issues with adverts in the background right now, as keeping steemit inc afloat is the most important. I don't get the problem of running adverts at least until the market recovers, ned seems a bit egotistical
Not surprised to see the hesitation in power ups given the news, the market and the previous large power ups. I saw it as an opportunity so I just got over 10k as I see the news as promising and a great demonstration of the value of the community here working towards a better and sustainable ecosystem.

I hope Ned can change his attitude in the live stream. He didn't come across well in the last one, I know his head must of been scrambled but he still needs to look like he's calm and in control. They also need to get the sound right, it can't be that difficult.
I don't see any harm in having adds, at least until Steemit Inc. is in a better financial position. The type of adds is important. I don't use fleecebook because the adds are horrible. I'm sure it would be possible to have adds for things that the community might want, like hardware wallets or Lambos :)
The roadmap is finally out there and the steemit team is too working hard lets hope for the best
good video man and i’ll be honest, as much as this stuff is above my pay grade seeing you more critical makes me uneasy on one side....but hopeful on another.
change is needed. that’s obvious. but just what you said in some comments above. the community is still alive and well. and when you have good people we will find good solutions :)

Hi I brand new to Dtube but I think the timing is good to make this comment or suggestion
I belive from real World business ownership experience as a clothing manufacturer and importer, that part of the advertising revenue could be marketed this way:
As an example let's say an active Dtuber is in a wholesale business of clothing or they own brands of clothing. They already understand the niche within the niche of how specifically ad's should be targeted, sometimes it's for a timed or scheduled promotion with a specific date range. And then a different product would start at another date range.
Hypothetically this potential advertiser could also reach a more "open minded" retail merchant in another Country whol might also be a Dtuber to consider marketing bringing in the said clothing brand(s). Pricing is not complicated publication of a small ad could be as little as one day or ongoing for building brand awareness.
I kinda feel like there is no choice if Dtube or other steem associated Dapp does not get this ad revenue some other human being will see this as an open market. NOT getting revenue from advertising does NOT seem logical.
I'm assuming you've already reviewed https://basicattentiontoken.org/
Anyway, I have felt that watching your vlogs over the last few weeks, you want the best for the community, and I'm taking the liberty of addressing this straight to you, as I feel you'll see the logic I'm suggesting should be reviewed by someone.
Thanks,
Rich
