Since setting up the Quick Blog Tips Facebook group, I’ve found it to be a great extension to the community for QBT. How can you use a Facebook group to grow and nurture your blog’s community?
Get to Know Your Readers
Blog comments are great, but they tend to be on-topic replies to your blog posts. Instead of littering your blog with short or empty posts just to invite comments, why not use a group? With a Facebook group, you can post more general discussions (e.g. “Tell us about your blog”), and you also allow readers to start their own discussions.
Faster Feedback, and More Personal Posts
Unless you have an uber-popular blog, you may find it’s quite rare for the comments to flood in within 5-10 minutes of publishing a new post.In contrast, while Facebook posts tend to disappear faster, you may get comments much more quickly on Facebook than you would on your blog. For instance, when asking for feedback I received two Facebook messages within 15 minutes of posting in the group. I’ve never received blog comments as quickly as that.
Share Exclusive Content
If you’re working on an eBook, give group members the opportunity to see it early by offering them a review copy. There’s no need to mess around with posting your email address in the group – just invite members to send you a Facebook message. You can then attach the eBook in your reply.
Ask Questions and Encourage Participation
Although the basic questions may have been done to death, it’s still fun to ask readers how often they write new posts for their blog, which social networks are their favourites, how much time they spend on their blog at the weekend and so on.For topics besides blogging, you can use your group to invite members to help each other out or share their experiences. A problem shared is a problem halved.
Setting up Events
You can use your Facebook group as a launchpad for a local event. You can use Facebook Events to manage the invites and the event discussion. You can then promote the event in your group.
Trial New Post Ideas
It may be as simple as asking if group members would like to see a post on a given topic – or asking for topic suggestions for future posts. You can also ask a leading question – “How are you using Facebook to develop and grow your blog’s community?” – and see who responds.
Posting Blog News
What’s new? What’s coming up? Readers who love your blog will be interested to hear what’s going on with it.And rather than devoting a blog post to announce small bits of news, you may find that a Facebook group is better suited to this type of information. This means your blog can stay focused and on-topic.
Share Lessons Learned
Have you discovered something that other members might find useful? Why not share it with the group?Members will appreciate the opportunity to learn from your mistakes!
Good tips. Been looking for how to get my facebook business group more bumpin. Thanks!
