"...There are important counter-trends to this --like encryption and cryptocurrency -- that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people's hands. But they come with the risk of being harder to control. I'm interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, and how best to use them in our services...."

Very interesting to see he addressed crypto in a section he was focusing on how the overall views of tech have changed over the years. I would agree that a decade or so ago the general feel for tech was that it was a disrupt on centralized companies of old, but in the wake of whole tech boom, there have now leveled out some large centralized players. Mainly the obvious of google, amazon, facebook, netflix, etc. The blockchain technology boom makes sense right now, because it is gaining notoriety as a possible means to change the way we create tech, and thus use, in an attempt to revisit the ideals of the whole decentralized ideal we once had.
Oh look, I'm posting this on a blockchain based decentralized social network! The irony is rich.... haha
