Facebook and Google seem to have no idea how the paradgm is changing from a model where you give your data for a free service to one where your data gains worth by its command of attention and is then paid for in cryptocurrencies
As this becomes obvious to everyone I anticipate a mass Exodus from these social services that we've grown accustomed these last few years to using and the days that they have left are numbered
The new paradigm recognizes the value of data from the point of creation and is willing to acknowledge that value in cryptocurrencies
can Facebook and Google survive these changes? Only time will tell as they have huge resources and Powerful artificial intelligent systems but I don't think that they can truly survive without joining the democratized distributed Networks of the present and future
The fact that these Mega corporations have chosen the route of control instead of the democratization of data does not bode well for them and is also an indicator of their own ignorance
How many bloggers have to be demonetized before the platform becomes unviable? Where is the Tipping Point? Does anyone still remember how quickly Myspace Fell From Grace? How do we know when critical mass has been reached? The only thing holding people to Facebook right now are the friends and family we communicate with on this platform and if there was another way to do this many many people would Tire quickly and go elsewhere
By the same token, the only thing holding us to Google are the free services it provides and if there was another way to obtain similar services in a more decentralized way that would pay the user for the data generated google would be relegated to a back up
