Assigning a Legacy Contact.
One of the sure things in life is that at some point we are going to die. So when we do, what happens to our Facebook account? Here I will go into a brief explanation of what you can do to ensure your account is looked after when you are gone. Firstly let me explain why I am writing this post, over the past couple of years I have lost several Facebook friends both young and old, some sudden, some not so sudden. In fact, when I am creating new pages and groups, Facebook still suggests that I ask these passed away friends to invite to like my page or join my group. The reason for this is that they have not set a legacy contact on their account and for all intents and purposes Facebook think they are still alive. So what can you do to ensure your Facebook account is looked after when you are gone.

It is not common knowledge but there is an option in your settings to appoint a legacy contact, this is somewhat like giving someone the power of attorney over your estate, (but in this case your Facebook account.) As a legacy contact, they cannot actually log into your account but can access all the information on your timeline, download it if they wish, deactivate your account, accept new friend requests and all importantly create a pinned post as regards to your passing. What they can't do is access your personal messages, send new friend requests nor edit or change any of your posts on your timeline. Assigning a legacy contact is straightforward, what I suggest is choosing someone you trust, maybe a close member of family to take on this role, once set, all they need to do is accept this role and then it is one less thing to worry about, (Not that you would worry when you're gone!) Apologies for such a macabre subject, but I thought it would be worth sharing as nobody knows what tomorrow brings. So if you haven't already, head over to your Facebook settings and assign your legacy contact.
Peace out and thanks for reading.

Wow , great information. I never knew that.
Thanks, it is something that Facebook has only implemented recently, and like most updates they don't really mention it to their users ;)
Good thinking!

I think I would prefer it if you upvoted posts that are worthy of an upvote, not spam commenting to get an upvote for an upvote. Thank you.
