RE: Is Steemit , Face Book, Tweeter , Instagram (social media ) full of Fools?

in #family7 years ago

A good read and some many true points, however, I think one has to bear in mind purpose and context when talking about different social media platforms.

Almost all platforms start with a single purpose. Facebook was to connect friends and family and share things with people that you know; Instagram was for photographers; Twitter is a bit harder to define but essentially it was for communicating with likeminded people. They all started with a single purpose and, more importantly, with a small, limited community.

That's what Steemit has now - a small community and a loosely defined but singular purpose. However, all of these platforms have had to diversify, mostly to say profitable, but also partially because how they were used began to define what they were. There's no profit in fake news for Facebook (in fact it brings them a lot of trouble), but that's how people have begun to use it - even I like to use it for news purposes sometimes! It's always easy in the beginning when the community is small and the use is limited to get rid of trouble makers and to police trolls and those who stray from the core purpose. But even Steemit in its relative infancy has problems that, due to its decentralised nature, can't be brought under control with any ease (haejin....?).

I think people believe that because of the way Steemit is setup it will be impossible for the same problems plaguing popular social media to find their way in here. But I think if Steemit is still around in 10 years, we'll be having a different conversation.

OMG this comment is way too long sorry!! Thanks for sharing!!
