There are many parallels that can be drawn. I love what you said and I have had to explain some of those things to my kids, which makes their love more like asking for respect and then getting it for a time.
The bigger picture is what we can learn about the Father. We can look at our earthly relationships and then compare them to our relationship with the big man upstairs.
I was considering both as I read your piece. My kids on their phones when I have time on my hands, and me on the computer when God has been waiting for my attention. Food for thought.
