In a recent post, I shared artistic thank you notes that I received from students following my classroom author visit. You can see that great artwork HERE and HERE.

Not all notes were artistic, but still and yet, they contained classic comments that come straight from the heart. They are just too rich not to share. There too many for one post, so I created Part I and Part II.

Please note that these are short excerpts; most wrote very involved letters. I made a few small edits, but for the most part these are word-for-word as they wrote them.

Here you go! Enjoy!

“Your laugh is interesting and your nails are very long and pretty. It’s cool that you came 2 our school for free.”

(I’ve been teased about my laugh most all my life. And yes, it’s true, in this particular case, I charged no honorarium. Several students commented on this fact. It seemed to impress them.)

“…I read almost all of your book. You’re one of my favorite writers. So I’m kind of freaking out right now.”

(I didn’t see anyone freaking out, but love this comment!)

“…By the way, everyone was wowed when they heard how many books you wrote. I hope you write many more books. I have one question. How many much pencils have you gone through.”

(Quite a few, but the computers save a lot of wood!)

“…thank you for spending time with us sixth graders not seventh because we are special…”

(Evidently not stopping to think he’s almost a seventh grader himself. smile)

“…What I enjoyed about your visit is that you said to never give up on your dream and ever since then I’ve worked harder to be a better basketball player…”

(That brings tears to my eyes!)

“…It was funny when someone asked how old was Oscar your cat and you said ‘ancient.’”

(Interesting what comes to their mind days later when it’s time to write their notes.)

“…also you’re cool for an old person, not in a rude way haha. Like you were up to date with technology and stuff. And funny jokes sometimes…”

(Is this a left-handed compliment?)

“…You were very funny and cute. I got very inspired because I actually make little stories in my head so you really inspired me to possibly become an author. Also I want to add that your outfit was sooo cute!”

(I spoke on two different days. I have no idea which “outfit” she thought was “sooo cute.” Now I’ll never know. But pretty heady stuff for this grandma to be the recipient of the term “cute,” not once but twice in one letter!)

“Plus the good thing about being an author is that you don’t have to write what people tell you. (In school we do.) And can just write what you want!”

(Good point! And yes, I do like that about being an author.)

Why I Love Students

See why I love students and why I love to hang out with them? They are so creative, so original.

In my next Teens on the Scene post I'll share more of these nuggets. Stay tuned.
