Joseph's Before PIctures (Kid fitness journey)

in #family3 years ago

I have lived with my 10-year-old nephew for 7 of the 10 years of his life. He has always been a really shy but tough kid.
We decided to start lifting together.
He used to live with me but now he stays with my mom and comes over to my house on the weekends.
I have been sick for over 3 weeks, and before that, It has been over 6 months since I have lifted, This is what I like to call a perfect scenario, because not only do I get to get back in Gainsville, but I get to help my nephew learn to lift...and more importantly, I can teach him why it is good to lift.

We talked about it and Joseph wants to start lifting for a few reasons:

  • To Be Bigger
  • To Be stronger
  • To protect his family
  • To look better

This is a 10-year-old so I was impressed by the fact that he wanted to be a stronger person to protect his family, but this is Joseph and he has always been a loving kid that likes to help the people he loves.

Superman vs. Lazyman

I talked to Joseph about how to "talk to himself". I told him if he wants to successfully start a new, but hard hobby/habit he has to have the consistent drive to follow through.
To do this you have to "convince" both sides of your brain to stick with it.
You have to convince the part of your brain that wants to be "superman" and be the best version of yourself as well as you need to convince your "Lazy Self" that it could benefit them as well.

So you tell the superman part of you that if you work out that he will be stronger, faster, and be able to protect his loved ones.
You would tell your "Lazy Self" that if you worked out it would make the rest of his life easier physically. It would be easier to get up, lay down, and everything you picked up would be lighter if you sacrificed the time and pleasure (cause sometimes working out hurts and isn't necessarily fun) to become stronger so the same physical task you do daily would be easier.

We also talked about the mental benefits of working out on a routine.

  1. working out when you don't want to works on your self-discipline and your ability to commit to other things you decide you want to do. It strengthens your work ethic as well as your muscles.

  2. It also gives you a way to release stress and aggression productively.

Here's Joe's "Before Pics" of his fitness journey. Joseph wants to work out, get bigger, and help other kids learn as well. Joseph wants to be the leader. Joseph is 10 years old and he is already thinking about being a leader and protecting his family. this kid is a blessing to be around. I can't wait to see what he becomes!

This is just the beginning. Joseph plans to work out healthily for a 10-year-old to not stunt his growth, and then he wants to help other kids use physical fitness to help their lives.
