RE: Focus on Being a Good-Enough Parent and Not a Perfect One

in #family7 years ago (edited)

I completely agree, I grew up the same way. Now I'm a father of two young girls, and with social media, the awareness of abduction/ child abuse is so much higher! I certainly don't coddle my girls, I challenge them. As you pointed out, you don't want to send weak entitled kids into the world.
But I cringe every time my wife reposts a missing girl on FB.

Where I live (Columbus), sex trafficking has increased to the highest on record and has one of the highest numbers in the country!

I certainly don't hover when we're out, but I'm terrified of such a fate happening to my girls. So sorry kids, maybe I'd feel different if you were boys, but you'll never get to roam around the woods or surrounding neighborhoods by yourself until you can drive! lol

Oh, I didn't know that you lived in an epicenter of trafficking.

I didn't either, until I had kids! Apparently the Arnold Classic (a body building competition), is one of the biggest sex trafficking events in the US! the Arnold would not approve

Oh wow, really? I never heard of the link between the two.
