Di-giiwewaat means “so they can go home” And it is a national campaign to raise awareness about child apprehension as it impacts Indigenous children here in Canada.
The goal, according to the poster in the window I saw today in downtown Prince Rupert, is to erase racism and and child apprehension of Indigenous kids, as well as reuniting children with their communities and families. I can’t really say for certain who all is involved in this project but I can say that CHSS is a high school here in town and the photo shows high school students making moccasins so I am willing to believe that, if not leading the charge, that our youth are very closely involved. They are making and/or collecting 165,000 pairs of moccasins to represent our Indigenous children in care.
This is thrilling to see, you have no idea. I love that our youth are involved.
Thanks for the crucial update.
thanks for the info
