George Gordon Byron, was the sixth Baron Byron, known as Lord Byron. He was born in London, England, on January 22, 1788. He was a nobleman, poet, politician and part of the Romantic movement.

During his life, he traveled a lot in Europe, especially in Italy and Greece. In Italy, he lived for seven years in the cities of Venice, Ravenna and Pisa.

Later, Byron joined the Greek War of Independence, fighting against the Ottoman Empire, for which Greeks revere him as a national hero. To help raise money for the revolution, Byron sold his estate to Rochdale Manor in Scotland, which raised some £ 11 250 pounds sterling, which led Byron to estimate that he now had some £ 20,000 in his disposal, all of which he planned to spend on the Greek cause.

His best known works were: Childe Harold's Pilgrimage (1812), Manfred (1817), Don Juan (1819), Mazeppa (1819). He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets.

He died on 19 April 1824, 36, Missolonghi (present-day Aetolia-Acarnania, Greece).
