The healing of a pain

Dr. Bahjat examined the girl, who was lying on the metal table in the hospital.

'Try to be still while I scan you,' he told her gently. He took her hand, and put it on her breast and then put his own hand on top of hers. He held his other hand on her forehead; all the while looking into her eyes to make sure she was comfortable. The girl was six years old and had been brought to the hospital because the doctors all over the world could not come to terms with why she had no ovaries in her body or womb. The girl had stained and injured ovaries and instead of the biological organs she should had had, there were two wooden balls.

'Can you tell me where you feel the pain?' Dr. Bahjat asked her.

'I-I-' The girl couldn't hold herself still. She was looking at Dr. Bahjat, who was trying his best to look into her eyes.

'Relax and tell us where you feel the pain,' Dr. Bahjat said; his tone was soft, calm and reassuring.

'I feel what I have always felt,' the girl said, 'It is not as painful as it was at first, but it is still there.' The girl closed her eyes as if she was trying to fight for some calm, but soon opened them again.

'It will never be gone as it is in you, because it is a part of you,' Dr. Bahjat said; his voice was confident.

'I want to go home and play with my sisters,' the girl said, while her hands where scratching her chest in circles. She was lost in her thought, and the ticking of the clocks and the loud ringing of the hospital intercom made her snap back.

'Why don't you lie down now, and enjoy your sleep?' Dr. Bahjat asked her and put his hand over her eyes.

The girl was quickly asleep and Dr. Bahjat typed some things into his laptop, and then he went outside.

The girl had been brought to the hospital around a year ago because she had been bleeding for the past couple of months and the doctors thought that she must have a serious illness or disease. But after the exams and blood samples, everything was normal. They had not found out what was causing the bleeding, so that only left one alternative, of getting some cancer cells from her and taking them to the research contraptions at the core of the hospital in Saudi Arabia.

'What have you found out about the girl?' a man sitting on one of the seats in the hall asked Dr. Bahjat.

'She is a very brave and mature girl,' Dr. Bahjat replied. 'I think she will be able to make the journey to the core of the hospital to the Saudi Arabia. We have already fixed the meeting time and place.'

'I feel good about her,' the man said, looking at the girl, who seemed to be sleeping peacefully. 'She has been through a lot in her short life, and being at the top of a hospital in the middle of a forest should not, I believe, have been a part of that,' he said, looking up at the clear blue sky. 'This land has also been written about a lot, and I feel that we have treated it wrongly.' He suddenly looked down, and then ran his fingers through his hair, 'I do not know about you, but ever since I came here, I can feel a thing or two about the nature of this place is wrong. We should have listened to the history of the place, should have helped those who used to live here and not just dismiss them.'

'I know what you mean sister brother.' Dr. Bahjat replied; he knew exactly what the man was feeling.

'For the life of me, I do not understand why we have not done very little to right the wrongs done to the environment here.
