She had heard the call of the heart three times. At the first, her heart had been as soft as velvet; at the second, as cold as a rock; at the third, it had melted her body and soul at a single touch. Each time, it had brought her a soulmate, an animal to love, a hero to slay.
She was Princess Kamala, a beautiful, gentle flower so high above the weeds of strife and hate that the sun was her enemy, for he killed the flowers by burning them airborne. Day and night, she could be seen hugging her flowers, her pets, her heroes, her lovers, like she didn't want to ever let them go. She was rich in this world, in this palace, and most of all, within herself.
Kamala stayed alone in her chamber, the dark of the night caressed her skin and the bitter winds of the cold season were her loyal companions. They were the wanderers of the dark, the bringers of nightmares, the voice of ghosts that would keep haunting you till the morning.
Kamala's loneliness was so great that she couldn't bear the thought of even welcoming her parents the morning after the night, for neither her words nor her laughers could shatter the silence of their desolate world.
Cold winds swept through the door and the air frosted the window. The white flakes kept falling down, refusing to stop.
"I need you, so that I can sleep," Kamala whispered in the dark. "I can't sleep anymore."
A shape reached behind and locked the door. He covered Kamala in a white blanket.
"Don't be scared, little one. I have come to take you to a world you never had the luck to know. Come to the world of dreams and let your fears wash away."
The intruder turned off the light and phased into existence. Kamala was astonished with the beauty of his form. She had never seen this person before.
He was a light blue, floating and shimmering with a gorgeous smile. He was tall and possessed a feathery tail which complemented his graceful and slender body.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Zachary the Indiller, but you can call me Zach."
Kamala frowned.
"What is an Indiller?"
"It is a bird that sings away the sorrows of your heart. It's name comes from the seed from an herb of the sea."
He lifted her up and carried her with the speed of a falling bird. They landed on grassy ground, with a soft and soothing breeze.
"But how are you able to fly?"
"You don't need to worry about that," Zachary said with a smile. "Now hold your breath, okay? I don't want you to be dizzy."
Kamala nodded and closed her eyes.
A top of clouds welcomed her inviting her to the world of dreams. Her eyes captured the distant and the vast lake. Within the lake, she saw little boats and gems of sea plants dancing in the light breeze.
"This is my home," Zachary said. "A place for me to live and for my kind. But it has become silent and lonely with no one to come to my shore."
Kamala approached to the shore and stared into the mirror of waters. An imaginary figure was floating into her. The face was unfamiliar. It was a face she had seen before, but couldn't remember.
"Who is that?"
"It is you, dear."
Kamala frowned.
"No, that can't be me. I don't even look like her."
Zachary came to her side.
"But it is the reality. This is who you will become if you sleep here now. Your dreams will come true. I have been in your dreams for years. I've always tried to remind you of your true self."
"How do you know this?"
"I've been watching you since you were a little girl."
Kamala smiled.
"You always tried to understand who I really am."
Kamala looked in the mirror of water. The body was different.
"I wish I was human."
Kamala went farther into the lake and swam so deep she couldn't feel the floor beneath. She swam so fast that her feet didn't touch the bottom.
"You're going too fast, princess."
"I don't care, I just want to get out of this little world. I want to see the world where I will be a great queen."
"But why such a haste to meet your soulmate?"
Kamala's eyes caught a sight of a silver object caught in the water. When she was close enough, it released a green light. Kamala drifted nearer and nearer to let her hands graze the magical object. But a sudden wave struck and she was carried away by the wind.
"Princess!" Zachary shouted. "Stop!"
But it was too late. The winds swept her away. Kamala opened her eyes and gasped in horror and surprise.
"What is your name?"
"I am Kazuya. I am not human. I am from a world that you have never heard of."
Kamala looked at the pair of deep metallic-chocolate eyes. They were slim and intelligent. They were calm, but deep.
"I've heard your name somewhere," Kamala whispered.
"I'm your lover, princess."
"I'm Princess Kamala, royalty of the Ocean Kingdom. But why are you trying to hurt me?"
"I'm saving you. See here, the shapes in your right hand. They represent the path you will take to your future. These pieces are the keys to open your destiny. This round Earth represents your life. Its rotation around the Sun is your cycle of birth and death.
