Vegetable cultivation in Faridpur to save the flood.

Farmers of Faridpur have been busy cultivating various types of crops since the flood water has shifted. Most of them are now busy working on vegetable cultivation.

Vegetable farmers believe that they can benefit from the cultivation of vegetables as expected. They claim that they can recover the loss of vegetables if they get the cost of vegetables.

Some farmers of the Northchalan Union of Faridpur Sadar upazila said, as soon as the flood water was down, the crop of early winter vegetable cultivation started in the higher land.

They said, some people have started selling vegetables in the market already from the planted land and some have started selling it. These vegetables are now in the local markets. They are benefiting from the cultivation of early winter vegetables.

Farmers of different areas demanded that many cultivate winter vegetables in the house gardens as well as agricultural land. In that case, the Agriculture Office is also offering various kinds of advice.

The District Extension Directorate said that the flood of two-year floods in Faridpur region caused huge losses. As soon as the floodwater comes down, the farmers begin to harvest early winter vegetable crops to compensate for the flood damage. Currently, different types of vegetables are being eaten by the farmers. Farmers are now busy working on vegetables and hiking in the ministry. Farmers are not sitting. Many farmers started selling vegetables. They are getting good prices by selling vegetables in the market. Vegetation of vegetables in this region is increasing day by day due to high profits in low cost.

Lakhs of families of at least 15 unions of four upazilas of the district have been affected this year due to flood. Majority of these families are agricultural dependents. 980 hectares of land of 6802 farmers of the district were damaged in flood.

The agriculture office said that peasants have made extensive cultivation of vegetables in all the upazilas including Chargarhadan, Sadarpur, Boalmari, Madhukhali and Sadar upazilas of the district. At present, the farmers of those areas are getting a variety of vegetables like red spinach, palanquin, radishes, coriander leaves, cucumbers, brinjal and louis.

Meanwhile, various areas are being sent to different districts including the capital. As a result, the farmers of these areas are benefiting from producing winter early vegetables.

According to the sources of the Department of Agricultural Extension, vegetables this year has been cultivated in 4257 hectares of land in Faridpur district this year.

Faridpur Agriculture Extension Directorate Deputy Director Agriculture Officer GM Abdur Rouf said, "We are giving various cooperation from the Agriculture Department. This year, seeds and fertilizers of Bt brinjal have been distributed amongst mustard seed-fertilizers and 60 farmers among 3500 farmers of the district.
